Boras says that Manny did not test positive for steroids, but for a prescribed drug that was used for a medical condition. That's what he says, but that's about as credible as REALGM....
ESPN just said it was prescribed by a physician and because of a medical condition. It wasn't a steroid but a performance enhancing drug. But since it was a performance enhancing drug it's still illegal to use in the league.
I think if it was a medicine given by a Doctor, it is legal to use if he informed his team and the MLB. Obviously he didn't inform anybody.
think boras is lying through his teeth. if its a prescription drug...isnt that supposed to be listed and noted to the doctors...and the doctor should know it could would come up positive in a test?
Just Manny being Manny Edit: Just saw there's another thread on this page with this exact title. Therefore, it loses any entertainment value it could have possibly provided.
lol, great memory! Even when I was working out on a regular basis, taking steroids was never an option for me. About the only supplemental thing I thought about taking was creatine but I passed on that. I weighed 205 back then (I'm up to 215 now thanks to the proverbial beer gut ), but believe me, if I had juiced up, I think I would be benching closer to 400 than 300 considering my weight in all... Any way getting to the topic, I talked to my dad about it as he is a huge Dodgers fan. As others have said, this was a prescription he was given by a doctor for some medical problem and it was definitely not a steroid. One high ranking Red Sox executive, according to Peter Gammons, made the comment that Manny Ramirez would be one of the last people to take steroids. But that is coming from Gasbags Gammons, so take it with a grain of salt. My dad was bemoaning the fact that there is this list with all of these banned substances on it but apparently not many people in baseball (at least on the players side) know what is on it.
Now it's sounding like an unfortunate situation. Manny took medicine he thought was legal but wasn't.
Cop out. They were all distributed a copy of the list and then were given specific instructions about submitting any supplements or prescriptions to the league for approval. We'll have to wait to find out what the script is, what it contained, etc. but Manny violated the policy. It may not end up being anything that taints his legacy though. Also, to the guy who intimated that it's only via steroids that these guys become stars, you vastly overestimate the effects of these drugs.
Why did those collegiate football players test positive for pot at the NFL combine? They knew when and where they would get tested yet they toked anyway. All he had to do was submit the prescription to MLB and verify if it was O.K. to take (if that is indeed truly what happened).
in all honesty, i have a very difficult time believing that. teams have doctors who keep track of banned substances. they monitor what players are taking. no one is secretive about the list...trust me, the league does not want to suspend a guy like Manny Ramirez, because he fills ballparks.
The players were all told to submit and scripts to the league when they were given them to get a clearance.
That's what happened. They are trying to find out what it was that he was using. Darn you Gatorade!! but it was prescribed by a physician because of a medical condidtion
Nothing came out about Alex Rodriguez then either - I guess that too must have been part of the cover up?
