I read the whole thing, there is NOTHING unreasonable in this legislation and it's very similar to what has been in place in many, MANY, states, for many, MANY, years. The folks that complain about it the loudest are of the "I haven't read it, but I've heard bad things" crowd. You are probably one of those.

No you absolutely didn't. The bill has a provision that allows the Georgia State legislature that is 99.9% of the time controlled by the GOP to remove local election board officials and replace them with someone of their chosing when they feel the need to which would obviously in practical terms be when there is a close contested election and they don't like the decision of a voting district's election board approving the results they don't like.

They made the approval of election results in Georgia be controlled by a partisan decision.

Btw this one provision in the bill would have swung Georgia to Trump in the 2020 election.

It's so hilarious that you consider outcry against a bill that is fundamentally against democratic republic principles "woke culture".

Hey let's call any outcry against gun regulation "woke culture".

Nope. I read it. It's a bad bill because of the intent, and the possibilities.

We don't know how bad it will actually disenfranchise voters because we aren't fortune tellers. We don't know if the State board will over rule state officials and overturn election results. We don't know if the GOP panel will vote to overturn "challenged" votes by outside groups like True the Vote which now can challenge an unlimited amount of votes in Georgia even from Texas, and the GOP controlled panel can decide whether or not to rule in the voters favor or not.

Yes it could have been worse if they would have passed some of the earlier drafts. Yes, it could motivate Democrats to turn out even more. No we don't know if they'll use the power that they have granted themselves to overturn elections. No we don't know if the Republicans will still lose.

However.... does it matter???... Because YES... I firmly believe that even if it's just ONE VOTER that loses his or her right to vote because of a law like this with the intent of disenfranchising voters, WE ALL SHOULD BE OUTRAGED. BECAUSE THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A DEMOCRACY.

So, it's reasonable to not allow folks to distribute generic bottles of water to those who might be waiting in a long voting line?

It's reasonable to restrict the number of voting boxes?

Why did they have to change anything? There was no widespread election fraud in Georgia.

Absolute hogwash. You either didn't read, or you just don't understand what you read. Nowhere does this allow any overturning of any results, at all. That is a complete myth and it shows you are willing to believe anything, like a fool. A local superintendent can be replaced (in response to rule violations or disorganization), but they CANNOT change any poll results. Try again fool.

Poll workers can still furnish food and drinks, this is done to prevent campaigners from handing out items with the a mug of a candidate on the label. Not a big deal, but keep trying.

Anybody can request an absentee ballot without having to give a reason, which is actually less restrictive than before, and they can still be dropped into any mailbox, anywhere. Not a big deal, but keep trying.

i love when the cult members whine about cancel culture and woke mobs - your god trump is the king of boycotting things that upset him.

thread starter better not use an iphone, eat oreos, fly delta, drink coke, order anything off amazon, wear nikes or buy goodyear tires.

It's amazing to me how many people are going with this cancel culture argument on a bill about voting laws...

Some of yall on the red side are being manipulated by billionaires.
    https://www.newyorker.com/news/news...argest-election-reform-bill-in-half-a-century

I'm not going to summarize it, read it yourself, but they know 'cancel culture' and 'woke culture' gets people emotionally charged and angry enough to think irrationally.

This (Georgia) bill ain't for anyone but billionaires to keep their lap dogs in power. That's the only reason it exists.

so you fundamentally misunderstand the point of election board officials. After a vote, before it goes to the US congress for certification, the local district election board can approve or not approve of the results because of some type of error in counting or "fraud".

Now instead of local election board officials having that control, the state legislature can replace an election board officials when they feel the need to on their own subjective terms and then can not approve of a result they don't like. All they would need to do is have right wing media spin up false allegations of fraud or "breaking the rules" in a tight race in a county like Fulton and when the local board approves of the results because they don't care about right wing media but rather the actual crediblity of the results, the GOP state legislature can now step in replace a election board official and tell the public to look at all the "allegations if fraud" for their reasoning in the district and deny approval of the results in that country.

No, they can't change vote counts but they can stop the approval of a result in a county when they don't like it.

Someone could start handing out water at a poll station in Fulton, the state legislature could deem that as breaking the rules, and then replace the election board officials with people hand picked by state legislators.

There is no requirement to have poll workers provide water.

Time frame for absentee voting was lessened to make it more restrictive.

Also you neglected to answer my question. Considering there was no widespread voter fraud in Georgia, why was it necessary to change anything?

    1) So....
    2) Shortened to only *checks notes* 78 days. Whoa, real prejudicial there.
    3) Doesn't matter. Anything that looks forward to try to prevent voter fraud is fine by me, shouldn't bother you either unless you want there be avenues to cheat on elections later.

No that isn't s myth. It's literally the consequences of the wording of the bill. Saying that the state legislature would only step in when there are "rule violations" just means when right wing media spams your lizard brain with false allegations for a cover to make these decisions.
