Stros are very weak with LH power bats in the minors. They said going into the draft that they wanted LH power at the corners, LH pitching, and depth up the middle. Stros are thick with catching prospects, and Sapp will possibly/probably be moved to 1B. A couple of the pitchers the Stros were linked to got drafted earlier. You're basing the "reach" comment on BA's rankings vs. where he was drafted? There's a whole lot more subjectivity in the baseball draft, you can't treat it like the NBA where there's pretty much a consensus on the draft boards. Furthermore, making comparisons & projections on a kid just drafted out of HS is pretty silly.
Quite a response from my little comment. Why not LHP in the 2nd round then? I was hoping the Astros would take Aaron Miller in the 2nd round. From what I hear he was gonna head to Baylor if he didn't get drafted early.

Don't know much about him other than what you just posted. Here's what BA said on their draft blog: Astros Find A Good Glove In Center 3:03 p.m.: Houston drafted but couldn't sign Drew Stubbs out of high school in 2003, and didn't get another chance at him this year as he went eighth overall. But the Astros might have found a similar player in the third round by grabbing Fresno State center fielder Nick Moresi. Moresi reached double-figures in homers and steals as a sophomore, but lost much of his power and confidence following a wrist injury. He still played gold glove center field defense, but hit just two homers during the regular season. Moresi looked strong again in regionals, cranking two homers in a game against San Diego. -- Will Kimmey So yeah, he was injured.
Moresi is a solid player. I watched him in the WAC (at Fresno St) since they played Rice 6 games per year. He was always a threat that our pitchers had trouble with.
Miller from Channelview will likely not pitch in pro ball. His bat is ridiculously good. Too bad he's the 2nd best player on the Channelview team....Diego Seastrunk is heading to Rice next year!
Yeah, I saw that. He's been pitching well at Round Rock. Glad to see him make it to the bigs. He was the closer at Rice back around 2000-2001
Where'd you hear that? Hmmm...sounds like the Stros may leave Sapp at catcher for awhile. Will be interesting to see what they do next year with Ralph Henriquez, Towles, Santangelo & House. Guess they figure they can always move him to 1st later if he can't handle catching. House may do the same. The Astros drafted Sapp as their No. 1 pick in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday with intentions for him to continue what he did the last two years of his high school career -- catch. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound left-handed hitter from Bishop Moore High School, drafted 23rd overall in this year's draft, worked out a number of times for Astros scouts, mainly Florida-based area scout Jon Bunnell, and the club is excited about Sapp's future as a catcher. "That was the controversy before the season started," Ricciarini said of the prior reports. "He's been catching two years, but he's got all of the physical skills and the work ethic. He's a good enough athlete. We had worked him out this year as well as last year. I have no problem with this kid developing behind the plate. "He has tremendous arm strength, he's athletic enough where he'll be able to block balls. He's a 'ballpark rat' as I call it. He's really built to play the position. He's a very durable, strong kid."
That's what it sounds like. He's already stated that he probably will miss his next start and they could retroactivate it to his last start.
Since you all are Astros fans, I have a side question. I have been to many games but never sat in the Crawford boxes. Are those seats still only sold the day of the game or are they that popular that none are available for the Royals series??? Thanks
They're definitely not sold only the day of game. We got 4 in the 2nd row a few weeks back through stubhub, paid about face - $40ish. Try there, and give the Stros ticket office a call. I can't imagine the Royals series will be too hot of a ticket.
i've never sat there but i'm sure if the ROYALS are coming into town you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a seat or two. too bad, the stros are playing like the royals right now....
was that the dude with the hot sister they kept showing everytime he pitched at the college world series that year?
From baseball america. Evaluations of Stetson slugger Chris Johnson run the gamut. He has attractive raw power, with the ability to drive balls deep to all fields. His body has gotten thick, especially in his lower half, and he could be limited to first base as a pro. The Red Sox drafted him in the 37th round out of high school in 2003 and could take a run at him again this year in the top 10 rounds.
Astros 5th round Casey Hudspeth Righthanders Casey Hudspeth and Mike Crotta feature a nice mix of pitches and some arm strength. Hudspeth's tenacious approach and demeanor serve him well on the mound. His fastball touches 93-94 but his breaking ball was not as sharp for South Florida this spring as it had been in the past. He has some feel for his changeup
