Ugh... what a freakin bandwagoner. Honestly... Kent finally shows a little "affection" (saying he's having the most fun ever in baseball), and his production picks up, the team is winning... and you get a complete flip-flop from Justice. Then, sometime next year (assuming we don't resign him), he'll just say, "I told you the Astros should have resigned him." And, nobody will be able to say he's wrong. In all seriousness, though... I don't see Kent really having much desire to play anywhere else this late in his career. If the 'Stros can keep the team together (Clemens, Beltran), and add some solid bullpen help... I see him re-negotiating his contract (or deferring most of it) in order to stay another year. (kinda like Barkley did in 99 for Quitten...ugh.).
To get Beltran, I would let go of Kent...Having said that, I still think CB will command a lot of money and we just can't compete...
that's interesting, nick. i hadn't considered the possibility that kent may renegotiate and take a lot less to stick around.
I have to agree with you Nick, I see him either playing in Houston or perhaps retiring. I don't really think he wants to move around the league anymore at his age. Isn't he a native of deer park (or something like that), and has a ranch. It would be sweet if he did renegotiate his contract.
He's from California, but he has a ranch near Austin (where he plans on retiring). The only situation I can see him in other than Houston is either a return to California for a team right on the cusp (like the Angels), or maybe (god forbid) Dusty can convince him to join with the cubs in Chicago. Imagine Kent... a pretty hated guy around the league... on the Cubs, who are fast becoming the most hated TEAM in the league. Ugh!
