    Haha Joe West would have called him safe on purpose and then thrown the pitcher out and had a fit on the field so he got on Sportscenter.

    hell, for a perfect game you figure they'd probably call him out even if the guy beat the throw, but for the reverse situation to happen? never thought i'd see it. after he touched the bag he opened his glove and the ball moved. did the ump think that made the runner safe or something? i just can't figure out what the call could be otherwise.

    good thing i couldnt see it. reds/cards are on espn, so its blacked out and espnews wouldnt jump to see the ending. bastards

    Jim Joyce just wanted to make the safe call. Umpires love to give calls at first on bang bang plays, and Joyce let the moment dictate the call.
