I thought Jackson was innocent anyway so this is justice served in my eyes. If you're a celebrity the public is going to judge you guilty no matter what so it doesn't surprise me that people have already decided Jackson was guilty.
a few things - first off, these jurors had 100 pages of jury instructions to wade through, watched 140 witnesses over 4 months, and deliberated for 30-something or so hours over the span of a week. So I find it very hard to second guess their decisions as far as doing what they were instructed to the do as to the best of their ability. Second, as far as the "well if you're rich and famous you can beat anything" rap - that's an overly simplistic statement that doesn't really hold up to scrutiny when you examine it. Sure, his celebrity allowed him to land a good lawyer who apparently did a good job - but it was also a double edged sword. His celebrity broadcast his wierdness to the entire globe, and it made him a target for prosecuters in Santa Barbara, who worked on putting him behind bars for about the last 10 years. Look no further than the last big celebrity trial - if Martha Stewart isn't a celebrity, there's very little chance she's even prosecuted, much less sent to jail. Sure, she could afford to have Bob Morvillo as her lawyer (who is regarded as the best white collar defense guy in the country, bar none) but in the end - it didn't matter how much money she had. In the end the facts as presented in court were enough to take her down and in other cases they weren't.
Celebrities cannot be innocent? The Mother and Kid had zero credibility is this really a surprise? IF THE GLOVE DON'T FIT YOU MUST ACQUIT!
Its like I told my boy today, if Kobe can get off then so can Michael. If R.Kelly can get off (and they had him on tape) so can Michael/
Listening to the jurors today it seems it was the kid's mom that turned them off. That has nothing to do with how much money Jackson has.
ima say mimisa mama tu sa ima say mimisa mamatusa ima say mimisa mama tu sa ima say mimisa mamatusa sing it to the world! ima say mimisa mama tu sa ima say mimisa mamatusa hoo hoooo! ima say mimisa mama tu sa ima say mimisa mamatusa
So, I assume you base this on extensive studies of other legal systems, and you have a diploma in comparative law (as I do)? What do you know about other legal systems?
Well I don't have a degree in comparative law or know diddly about the legal systems outside the States, but I can tell you that Steve Francis blows donkey balls No really, I would imagine that there's got to be at least a few countries out there whose top judges aren't hand selected by political parties whose agendas are largely steered and controlled by corporations and political action committees. And as the Transparency Intl Corruption Perceptions index (link below) shows, there are quite a few countries ahead of the US with regard to quid pro quo's. So I wouldn't be surprised if some of those countries had a lower percentage of hung judges than in the States, also. http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0781359.html
I don't even want to turn this thread into a debate about which legal system is better or worse, it just bugs me to see a certain poster talking out of his ass once again.
"This just in. Saddam Hussein would like to have his trial moved to Santa Maria" -David Letterman 06/13/05 "The good news is MJ is not guilty. The bad news is he's going to Disneyland" -Jay Leno 06/13/05
And next in line is.....Phil Spector!! "Your honor, I am totally innocent of this crime. I brought Lana back to my home after dinner. She asked me if I had any dental floss. All I had in my medicine chest was a 357 magnum. I said 'Here, try this.' Next thing you know she had shot herself. I guess you should never try to pick your teeth with a handgun." NOT GUILTY!!!!!!
F*CK*RS. The question shouldn't be: "Do you think he's innocent?" The question should be: "When should MICHAEL pick up your kids or future kids for the first of many NEVER LAND visits??"
