I think the problem some media is having is one of belief versus fact. And I just don't understand that. I can believe anything I want. I can believe he did it and not send my kids to the neverland ranch. That is anyones perogative. But what one believes doesn't really matter in terms of what happened. The evidence, fact, and testimoney do. And they all point in one direction. Not guilty. I'm not going to send my kids into a house that has smoke puring out of it. Because that is the safe thing to do. But what made that smoke could be anything. If all the firefighters tell me the smoke came from boiling water then I can do what I want with that information. But I'd rather put my faith in several fireman than what I believe could be true. I trust them.

I think I'm going to get a restraining order against you. I'm glad our legal system provides me that opportunity because you are starting to worry me.

I also know we have the best legal system because Germans come and study at our law schools and brag about their law degrees because they have penis envy.

Could Jacko Make Live 8 Comeback?

Michael Jackson is being lined up for a sensational comeback at next month's Live 8 gig.The King Of Pop has been tentatively invited to appear at the Philadelphia or London gig by organisers, after he was acquitted of child abuse allegations on Monday.Live 8 promoter Harvey Goldsmith says he would consider adding him to the line-up for the July 2 event - but questioned whether he was ready to perform yet.

i disagree. i don't practice in the area of criminal law, but not guilty is absolutely the default verdict. if both sides go up and say nothing...he's not guilty. the state's burden is huge...to convice BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT. that's a tough, tough burden to meet. easier when the defendant has court-appointed legal help.

There is no doubt in my mind that the dude is a peterast ("what's a pederast walter?", "stfu donnie")... but there is also no doubt in my mind that the acuser and his family were simply after his money. A civil suit is soon to follow. The huge idiots in all of this was the DA and his goon squad basing this entire case on that nutjob family.

To be honest I would be very surprised if there was a civil suit since the kid was seen as unbelievable by the jury. I think this will die away now.

I'm too big of a Michael fan so I probably have blinders on to believe he's guilty but this is just messed up.

Jackson himself remained out of sight after being found not guilty on charges he molested a 13-year-old cancer survivor at his Neverland ranch. But his Web site triumphantly ranked his acquittal alongside the birth of Martin Luther King Jr., the fall of the Berlin Wall and the release of Nelson Mandela.

My personal opinion is that Michael Jackson is crazy (duh) and that he most probably has pedophile tendencies. I doubt he has had actual sex with minors, though. Also, I think the jury did a good job. The specific accusations which were brought in this trial could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt (the credibility of the main witnesses of the prosecution was very much in doubt). I think one of the jury members even said he thinks Jackson is a pedophile, but that they could not convict him based on what was presented to the jury.

but some perspective is necessary here; those cases that go to a verdict are the fractionally small proportion of criminal cases that are questionable enough to get there - most of them do not.

As far as the money thing, collectively these people put on 140 witnesses and the case went on for 4 months. The prosecution had a shot to cross examine them all and put on a sh-tload of testimony. When you have an expensive lawyer, it levels the playing field a bit, but the state can pour as much money into the case as MJ can without as much pain.

all that's fine and well. i'm saying the burden is a b****. that's all i'm saying. i'm not saying it shouldn't be a b****. it should be. i believe in the jury system. but it ain't perfect.
