I voted not sure....like I said before, I like that Alston is more of a PG, but at the same time, I worry about his attitude and chemistry issues. With MJ, I like his Defense a lot, but sometimes, his offense (especially in the playoffs) got to me. I'm all conflicted, but I guess we'll see how things work out.
I voted Yes because I think JVG will help Alston become better on defense and because alston brings more on offense (better passing and ball handling) than Mike James. I just hope that contract doenst hurt us 2-3 years down the road.
Im an not sure yet either about this trade, time will tell. But I do feel better knowing that Mike James did not hit 1 three pointer during the playoffs, I hope Alston is a good decision.
Ditto that. I am hopeful however that Alston will be on the same page as JVG... if so, then definitely a positive!
can anyone give me alston's contract figures? It's gotta be mor than James...(but I guess not more than 15%)
really? i am pretty sure mike james did but anyways i liked mike james but not nearly as much as some of the others around here....he to me was a poor mans steve francis who did not see his teammates to well... i was screaming at my friends to trade him during the playoffs when he kept waving off t-mac. i hope him well and that he gets paid like he wants to be in toronto. i think rafer is a nice upgrade to him
I think it is fantastic, should help Yao more than anyone else on the team, Rafer can get the ball to the right people at just the right time. Mike James...well, he is a good scorer, but not a PG. DD
and yeah, we had to get rid of James soon, he was gonna bolt for $$ - and that's for sure now, being a Raptor.
James has another 2 years at around $3.5 mil. Alston's got 5 more years, starting at a shade under $4 mil and ending a shade over $5 mil.
EXACTLY!!!! Plus, MJ is the only Rocket player that didn't mention about how good the team is... the rest of the guys have explicitly said how they like the chemistry of this team, how they like to be coached by JVG. Good Trade.
james said that he plans to opt out of his contract this summer and sign the most lucrative offer he gets "even if it's in utah". well now we don't have to worry about who our PG will be this year or next year. anyone else find it funny that it only took one day of training camp with james at point for JVG to trade him out of the country?
Although Rafer is a true point guard compared to MJ, Rafer does not have the ability to bring that spark to start a run. Defensively, MJ is better and once again, can spark a run with a steal. The real question is, although we got what we needed, did we give up too much?
rafer will fill more seats than mj ever did and plus, this just kinda shows how the rockets dont have sura in any plans,,, and maybe he is thru
LOL It is a good move, I like James, but too much controversy surrounds him at least as far as the point guard option and he's actually said he'll be gone next season, so why not take a low risk to get a high reward on a guy in a negative situation that is probably undervalued anyway. I liked our version of "the microwave" but think long-term (which is what we should be thinking - unlike the Astros - who need to be thinking this may be their last chance) it's a good move.
