I rather give people a 1000 dollars then give corporations tax cuts. About time. Supply side economics don’t work. Why give tax breaks to the companies for them to buy back stocks. Give the money to people. Demand side economics. Supply side does not create demand people do. Give people the money.
I think this UBI proposal or some version of it should be lock really but I'm also open to more complicated ideas on how to feed businesses to keep payroll running. I'm really open to almost any creative solution right now that can be implemented ASAP because I think the economy could collapse.
I think right now it should just go on for as long as we need it during this crisis. Something has to be done or yeah, things are going to get crazy.

The thing is this isn't a "freebie" or a "handout." The government is shutting down jobs and killing paychecks, this is basically imminent domain payment as far as I see it lol. Though it doesn't come close to replacing the income some of us are going to lose.
I was PISSED about TARP and the AIG / Auto bailouts when Dubya signed off on all that trillion dollar corporate giveaway. They helped all the businesses that should have failed and gone away to be replaced by better managed groups with historical hindsight to avoid those mistakes and left "we the people" to default. I'm no less thrilled with the gubmint handing out parachutes for corporations today. At least this time they are talking about helping the people for once .... instead of just the corporations.
