This was brought up in another thread but I don't think Jesus' political views are that relevant in a modern context. I also find it troubling that people are arguing who you should vote for based upon what the conditions were in Roman occupied Judea. Can't people find issues relevant to today to decide who to vote for?
No, I don't consider the Book of Mormon to be an "offshoot" of Christianity...its very message is to testify of Christ. And the Bible is considered one of the standard works of the LDS Church--to be honest with you, I have never met an individual who was active in the LDS Church who didn't own a bible. It's an essential element of our gospel study. Maybe I should have clarified why Mitt's response irked me so much as a member of the LDS Church...right or wrong, many people who choose not to educate themselves as to what's going on in the world may equate his comments to saying that he doesn't really tolerate those of another faith, and therefore, Mormons must not either. I personally don't believe that he thinks less of a Muslim than another person, but that's beside the point. I just believe what he said was incredibly stupid, for reasons already noted in this thread. It's the same people who I talk to all the time that say they will vote for Romney because he's a Mormon, and so are they. His being LDS and his ability to run the most powerful country in the world are very different things. That irks me too.
So is the Mathew-Revelations. My point was Judaism-Christianity:Christianity-LDS Analogy style. So they have much more similar text than any muslim has. I think his response was honest and shows SOME logic and most PC answers cannot claim that.
With regard to Romney's religion, I would never DREAM of factoring religion into the hiring process when I look for people to work for me. If you can perform the job, then you are hired. Period. That said, the Presidency is a little different, since one's moral compass needs to be judged to evaluate policy positions, judicial appointments, etc. From what I have personally observed, Mormons have a moral compass that is as strong, or stronger, than any I have ever seen. This is generalizing, I know, but they are incredibly hard working, honest, and driven. Just look at Romney's successes all throughout his life. The guy is just a winner. The United States would be doing VERY WELL to hitch its wagon to someone with that track record. Romney has succeeded in the highest, most competitive circles of business and public service. There is no doubt he has what is needed to lead. No doubt. He graduated top in his class at Harvard Business School AND Harvard Law School. He founded one of the most successful private equity funds. I don't know about you, but that sure beats Hillary's deceit and manipulative tactics.
that's interesting because romney would. he would try to see if your position was appropriate given the population in america of the religion you affiliated with.
wikipedia disagrees. take it for what it is. but c*m laude at harvard law is certainly not 'top in his class'.
