"Bill Gates: Rich nations should shift entirely to synthetic beef":

    https://www.technologyreview.com/2021/02/14/1018296/bill-gates-climate-change-beef-trees-microsoft/

    long interview. here's an excerpt:

Q: Do you think plant-based and lab-grown meats could be the full solution to the protein problem globally, even in poor nations? Or do you think it’s going to be some fraction because of the things you’re talking about, the cultural love of a hamburger and the way livestock is so central to economies around the world?

A: For Africa and other poor countries, we’ll have to use animal genetics to dramatically raise the amount of beef per emissions for them. Weirdly, the US livestock, because they’re so productive, the emissions per pound of beef are dramatically less than emissions per pound in Africa. And as part of the [Bill and Melinda Gates] Foundation’s work, we’re taking the benefit of the African livestock, which means they can survive in heat, and crossing in the monstrous productivity both on the meat side and the milk side of the elite US beef lines.

So no, I don’t think the poorest 80 countries will be eating synthetic meat. I do think all rich countries should move to 100% synthetic beef. You can get used to the taste difference, and the claim is they’re going to make it taste even better over time. Eventually, that green premium is modest enough that you can sort of change the [behavior of] people or use regulation to totally shift the demand. [emph. added]
get that? we're going to "use regulation to totally shift the demand."

    what could possibly go wrong

In the auto industry, regulation is the only reason why emissions drastically improved in the past 40 years.

I watched a show on Prime where John Cusack plays a Bill Gates type that develops some sort of synthetic meat. Gates is sus; I suggest none of y'all eat his fake meat [pause].

Sin taxes used to be something Cons tolerated, but I guess since we threw Baby Jesus out of the bathwater, taxation with a moral imperative is now inherently unAmerican.

or just stop eating beef all together. Eating beef is like driving an f-150 as far as green house gases are concerned.

So here's the thing. The Beyond Meat synthetic stuff is light years beyond the veggie burgers of old.

But it is light years behind even median quality real beef. And infinitesimal in taste compared to higher quality cuts of meat.

See China goal. By using plant based or synthetic meat.

China culture, as well as India, is very used to plant based imitation meat. It’s some of the best food food I ever had, but the very good one cost a premium.

Going to be tough for American to adopt with their individualism, unless it can taste better than real meat or it’s for health reason.

Whatever the case, regulation is fine but should be fair and adopted over time - the cost of meat production should start to include the cost of environmental and perhaps even health impact.

    https://time.com/5930095/china-plant-based-meat/

China’s government has published guidelines to cut meat consumption in half by 2030 to reduce pollution and combat obesity.

    That’s not going to happen
But we should have cattle ranches on the moon and import the beef from there. Methane gas on the moon won’t do anything and that solves the problems on earth and allows us bbq

Musk is a pretty good friend of them. They should work with Musk to move their wet markets to Mars.

    Musk doesn’t see nations
He sees humans who can help in his goal of saving the planet

The only people who can topple the Chinese government is their citizens

Unless you prefer the world war three route
    Which can happen

Elon is a man of peace and not war and the only person who sees that humanity must colonize other planet to eliminate war among nations and unite humanity

because every war and culture clash on this planet
    Has been because of resources

nobody has started a war against Antarctica right ? @Space Ghost

John Cornyn should be required to switch entirely to synthetic beef given what he did with that brisket.
