Actually, Kidd and Martin has about the same fga/min. When Van Horn was there, he was the leading fga/min man. Kidd play more minutes than all his teammates. If you are interested, here is the fga/min stats for the starters of Nets and Rockets. Nets: Kidd .416 Martin .412 Kittles .364 Jefferson .316 Collins .178 Rockets: Francis .395 Griffin .359 Mobley .351 Yao .338 Posey .260 There's a big gap between our leader (Francis) and the rest of the team. For the Nets, the big gap is between the 2nd and the 3rd leaders. But counting shots is probably not the best way to judge who's the no.1 option. Griffin takes more shots than Mobley when he's on the floor. Can you believe he's our 2nd option and Yao our 4th? Also, the best player for the Piston is Wallace. And he is about their 5th option (didn't look it up).
Easier said than done my friend. Maybe people dont drive to the hoop as much against Yao. The INTIMIDATION factor counts for about 1.5/2 blocks per game.
Man francis needs to get over himself and his huge ego. Someone should ask him how many times the rockets have made the playoffs with him being the number option!
i wanted to read the whole thread before posting again but this idea keeps getting posted. why are we arguing relevant overall positional dominance when it comes to getting an absolute, offensive points. if yao was the 2nd best center in the game, he was 2nd best and getting 13 ppg. if steve was the 4th best pg, he was the 4th best and getting 21.6 ppg. A. why do we care what the average person at each position scores? if SF was the worst position in the league and all sf's averaged 6 ppg, should we now start going to rice every time b/c he'll have the highest point differential? or should we go to steve/yao/cuttino b/c they have the best chance of scoring? B. who cares about steve or yao's defense against mediocre people in the context of who should get the ball. regardless of what other positions score for our opponent, we're trying to get as many points as possible. steve dominated pg's to the tune of 21 pts and 6 asts per game, accounting for 34+ points a game. so even if they are closer to him overall as pg's (b/c there are more good pg's), they still can't stop him from getting 21/6. yao had like 13 pts and 2 asts, accounting for like 18 ppg. steve dominates more on offense, end of story. better question, how many pg's are there that steve can't score on? how many center are there for yao? at least shaq, and ben wallace frustrated yao, allow with other physical people like brian grant. steve seemed to have problems with SA, but that was due to duncan/drob, not parker. essentially every night you could expect 20 from steve. yao might give you 25, he might give you 5. you can say well he was a rookie, but that's the point. he isn't ready. i wonder if anyone's brought up jr bremer in the 40 posts after Pipe's. that would be hilarious considering how bad steve dominated him and that the fact we won both games. please someone have brought up jr. and maybe the greatest thing every written on this board, coming from Fegwu LO freakin L. underrated? the dynasty, give yao the damn ball, doing every commercial on the planet, voted starter in the ASG, apocalypse yao, for a 13/8 guy. man i'd hate to see the frenzy if he was rated.
uhh, what?! so now yao is hakeem, who came in 20/10 ready from day one? that made no sense. how about, jordan was the focus of chicago's offense in his 5th year even though the team hadn't done much in his first 4 years, so why can't steve? and MacBeth, has one ever not been thrown to the wolves. hmm, not that i can think of. but i guess that brings up the ultimate question, is yao a franchise center? and codell, i look forward to your suffering this season also.
Being the No.1 option doesn't mean the offense flow should run through him... Vlade Divac is the director of Kings offense but he's the No? option.. I'd like to see Steve taking more shots than YaoMing, only if they are good shots.
I don't think absolute offensive points is what it is all about. If so, yes, Stevie has it over Yao. But's it not, and that is why the highest scoring players aren't always the best players, and why the highest scoring teams aren't always the best teams. What I think this thread is about, and what I know my post was about, is that the Rockets offense will be better if Yao is the focal point of an inside out offense. That doesn't necessarily mean Yao will be taking the most shots or scoring the most points. But it should result in more wins. I have seen plenty of the guard oriented offense and the results. It's time for a change.
i don't think you get what i mean. people are trying to use the relative inability of other centers to score and the fact a lot of centers aren't good overall and using it to say yao should get the ball more b/c he's ranked higher relative to his position than steve even though it doesn't matter on the offensive end. no matter how steve is ranked among pg's, he can put 21/6 on them every night, while yao only put 13/2 on centers. steve offensively dominates other pg's more than yao offensively dominates other centers in absolute terms even though relatively yao may hold the advantage. since steve is able to score/create better against his opponents (no matter how good they may be on the other end) he is better on offense and the number one option currently. this could very well change and as soon as yao can do the same to centers that steve can do to pg's he can share/surpass steve as the main option.
only if u consider Tim D. etc as power forwards( yah, i know they are, but some times there isnt much difference btwn 4 and 5)
Come on Francis. If getting your ass beat by the likes of JR Bremer and some scrub point guard from Miami does not humble your big head, nothing will. That right there should give you enough incentive to make a few voluntary workouts with Jeff Van Gundy.
It depends on what your definition of NO.1 option is: 1. Run the offense: Yao without a doubt. He is the biggest mismatchup night in and night out with good offensive skills, passing skills, and the best court vision on the team. Overall he is better than anyone on the team to direct an offense with his total package. It doesn't make sense to make him stand beyond 3 point line and watch the point guard wannabes go one on one. 2. Take the most shots: Not necessarily Yao. Whether Yao scores more points than Francis isn't important. Let Yao have the ball and make decisions, even when Yao passes out after holding the ball for 3 seconds, it beats Francis or Moochie dribbling the air out of the ball. 3. Take the last game winning shot: Since neither Francis nor Yao are Kobbe or Shaq, it should depend on matchups. We'll wait and see if Yao has progressed enough in the summer, and if his inevitable improvement as a second year player would catapult him to the undisputable go to man. Remember, Francis is stalling, and Yao has a lot to unveil being up and coming while showing clutchness in the last season.
I don't understand what the damn problem is all about. This year WE WILL RUN THE OFFENCE THROUGH YAO(our first option). If it works, GREAT! IF it doesn't, then you can all b**** all you like. Common people, wake up. What so hard of giving this a try? I want to see it happen and see the result. We have to start somewhere and this is a good opportunity to have YAO learn at the process. The only way to see if YAO's ready is to run it through him and see. THis debate ain't going nowhere until we get to see it with our own eyes so stop judging what we saw from last year or the year before.
I agree with steve yao was not ready last year but he was pretty close. But come on nobody can stop shaq and nobody will. Francis needs to worry about himself and who he needs to stop. Why not work together with yao. Everybody knows yao is our best passer and if steve would make some cuts he could take advantage of the big man down low!!!
Replace JR Bremer's name with Tony Parker or Jason Williams or.. you get the point. But with a name like francis4perez I doubt you do get the point.
