Low-post Offense -- Look at the league history, you cannot win consistently without a low-post offense.

I see the Rockets have been trying to post Asik a few times, but I don't think that's going to work. The Rockets need either develop one of their young PF, or trade for one.

People left and right making threads about lin...

Constant fighting between lof and loh...

Oh you meant on the court? How about not using lin as a pg... or not playing tjones enough minutes... actually playing td significant minutes... drafting royce white... banning DD, nah nevermind that last one was a blessing...

With the alley oop passes Lin doesn't have the personnel for it & i don't think the chemistry is quite there yet. I think the coaching staff is trying to emphasize quick decisions in transition. Also it is a lot harder to defend a pass in transition than it is to defend a dribble. I get the logic & overall it is a smart decision for a high percentage shot if you are good at the pass which he is. Sometimes it will work sometimes it won't when your a young team you might as well take the risk.

Asik bringing the ball down around his waist, leading to the strip. He did it last night. Drives me crazy when he does. The guy is a legit 7 footer and huge. Keep the ball up, big fella, and as Easy said, throw it down!

    1. Lin helps too much on defense and loses his own man. Last year with Knicks, I was frustrated in the beginning to see him helping too much, often times unnecessarily. Then, he played a lot more controlled at defense, and I said to myself, wow, this kid learned fast.

But now, he's doing that again, way too much "helping" in the paint, ends up losing his man or long rebounds. I wonder whether it's old habit coming back or coach is asking them to do so.

    2. Patterson has to come out to set some semi-decent screens, unlike Asik, he can do something with the ball in hand, but he's so lazy that even if he sets screen, those screens were nowhere near where it needs to be set and when it is needed. I was super pissed to see him waiving Lin off at other night, when Lin asked him to come out to set a screen at the top of the key.

Yea that's a terrible habit. I remember an article about Asik/coaching staff saying they were working on it. It's insanely frustrating to watch though.

If you're under the basket when you catch the ball, go straight up, NOT down and then up!

The mistake being repeated is that some fans get very upset and frustrated when the team performs badly and being over elated when it performs well. The Rockets have been on overhaul mode for sometime now and they are constantly getting overhauled. It looks like it will continue to be like this for some time to come.
That being said, it would be better for fans to not be over excited nor over upset about the team. It is what it is, it will be like this in the future and it's been this way for years, get used to it.

    1) I think it is a coaching decision it happens way to often & it hasn't stopped that it has to be a coaching decision

    2) Why does Patterson not want to set screens? What is his aversion to screen setting?

    2. Seems like Ppat is more interested in setting up for his 18ft jumper that comes after the screen as opposed to setting the actual screen. I saw that a lot in the Laker game.

the Rockets ought to hire a dunk coach/low post offense coach for Asik ( please train with Hakeem, please) and a shooting coach to end the shooting woes

a season or two would make this team lethal, right now its all about exposing the flaws so it could be detected and fixed early on...

I hate players who take shortcuts & don't like to do the dirty work. Why haven't the coaching staff gotten on him for this though? It makes life so much harder for the guards.

Help defense is important and useful, but you have to have the right player provide that help... the defender away from the ball, not the defender closest to the ball (leads to the easiest pass). Also, if there is a player drilling 3's, you HAVE to be aware of where that player is, and your team defense has to adjust for that (in other words the player on Foye or Williams can't be the help defender, or someone has to rotate to Foye or Williams right away).

Setting screens... the Rocket bigs are so soft they give the weakest screens I have ever seen. Patterson doesn't even make contact... he starts to roll away right away.

The same bigs also are afraid of the rim. It must hurt their hands to dunk the ball.

I don't think that has anything to do with shortcuts and dirty work. A lot of big men, especially those who can shoot, roll too soon because they want to set up the shooting. It's kind of like football receivers turning to run before they secure the catch. I agree that the coaches should drill the proper technique in their minds.

BTW, the incident of Patterson refusing to set a screen for Lin was weird. I suspect that the play was bungled. Patterson was probably not supposed to set the screen in the drawn up play and when Lin called him to come, he thought Lin forgot the assignments. This is the only reasonable explanation I can think of.

    1. When Lin drives in to the basket and does the double pump only to find out no one is falling for it and then has nowhere to go with the ball.

    2. when Harden dribbles out the clock and shoots a 3 or when he shoots the 3 with a defender on him with 15 sec left on the clock.

    3. When Asik opts to lay it up instead of dunking the damn thang.

agreed. and they should mix up the help, fake the help from time to time, dont just go all in everytime. and they should read the scouting report of the opposing pg's 3pt%.

I don't watch football so the analogy escapes me. Yes sometimes he does roll to soon but the vast majority of the time he doesn't even want to set the screen like he refuses too.
