wow. Pastor Weatherford is a coward, the way he sheepishly explains the controversy away like it is the right thing to capitulate to racists instead of taking a stand for what is right, in the year 2012 for crying out loud... I'd marry that couple, stand up and walk out of that church if I were a pastor. they were regular visitors... <object width="416" height="374" classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" id="ep"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="movie" value="http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/apps/cvp/3.0/swf/cnn_416x234_embed.swf?context=embed&videoId=us/2012/07/27/church-bans-black-couple-wedding.wlbt" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /><embed src="http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/apps/cvp/3.0/swf/cnn_416x234_embed.swf?context=embed&videoId=us/2012/07/27/church-bans-black-couple-wedding.wlbt" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" bgcolor="#000000" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="416" wmode="transparent" height="374"></embed></object> their silence on the controversy is deafening https://www.facebook.com/pages/First-Baptist-Church-Crystal-Springs-MS/259463990762608 tell them how you feel on the matter before their page gets obliterated to the point of removal. racist hypocrites.
2 things. 1). The people that attend a wedding are family/friends of the bride and groom. Why in the hell should the members care? 2). I'd hate to imagine if it were an interracial couple.
That happened a couple of years ago in Louisiana. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/15/interracial-couple-denied_n_322784.html
A wedding is not a legal right, it's a ceremonial, social and private act that should depend on the willingness of all parties involved. Even speaking as a black liberal, even from an ethical/moral standpoint I think you just find another church and move on.
That church is not run by Christians and if you are a real Christian you should probably find a real Christian church to marry in or Vegas!
I didn't watch the video, but did the pastor refuse to marry them because they aren't members? Or was it because they're black?
Because it is against Christian values to be bigoted, maybe. I'm glad the pastor was stand up enough to marry them at a nearby location.
he did marry them. in another church. where they weren't members. he refused to stand up to his congregation who threatened to "vote him out" if he married the lovely couple in his own church. they were black. that "had never happened before" and people are asking why Christians would be mad about this? their page was taken down as predicted. some of the responses were pretty funny.
Well, if that's all the facts, then I cannot support that decision. I don't discriminate based on race.
Agreed. God is not in this church. This would not be the place for me to be married I would do 2 things: 1. Find someplace else 2. Let everyone know that it is a Godless building that is served by False Prophets for Profit. Cannot be passive on those using the bible and God to make money and gain power and status. Christians have to step out ad stomp out those places that do not practice and preach the Christian Values. One cannot USE THE NAME just because it has value and gives you credibility Rocket River
I agree. Christians in Mississippi should definitely do everything they can to call attention to the wrong done by this church.
Look luck getting anything done in the bible belt. Statistically they are the least educated vernacular region in the entire United States of America. The dumb majority can just gang up on the intellectual minority.
You have a stance against education in your heart, and seem content and defend a lack of education among U.S. citizens.
so you support RedRedemption's blanket statement against the Southern US? I love how you liberals are so hypocritical. You're fine with generalizing and displaying intolerance against a wide group of people. You also love to hate on Christians, in general, any chance you get.
