Lets examine the rest of the facts you left out: 3. Nine cops were fired over this incident. 4. He was accused of steeling a badge ...not carrying a weapon. I don't see how a guy that needs facial reconstructive surgery for allegedly steeling a badge "had it coming." Again, 9 cops were fired over this incident. Let me guess ...you are white. I was harrassed by HPD just two weeks ago at a park. I was pulled over 13 times in one calender year and given ONE citation. Growing up as a black man in the south, I have a little bit different perspective on the behavior of cops than you. So you'll pardon me of my skepticm on your take on this issue.
I was pulled over last week and wasn't given a citation...big whoop. Black people aren't the only people pulled over by cops. Get over yourself
Please don't pretend that somehow you've seen it all. Assuming what he says is correct, being stopped that many times and not being given a citation is a big difference than what you got. The world doesn't revolve around your experiences and yours don't define everyone elses. Sure other people get pulled over, but the numbers are disproportionately skewed towards african americans considering the demographic of the population that they make up.
I don't see how the fact that the victim was biracial makes this a racial case or a hate crime. Is the victim and his lawyer playing the race card to strengthen their case?
fair enough, but I fail to see the relevance of his self pity party in determining that these cops were guilty when we're dealing with a convicted criminal and a jury that exonerated them. No, juries don't always get it right, but at the same time it is silly to jump to conclusions after reading such a one-sided newspaper article and give the convicted criminal the benefit of the doubt over the policemen who serve to protect the community on a daily basis.
Well, the DA thinks there is an issue: Should we believe off-duty officers? Milwaukee Journal Sentinal By the look of this guy's face, I would say that was a platinum badge from Tiffany's or something...
Well, hopefully before long the policemen who did this will be convicted criminals too. It isn't a matter of whether they did this or not. They did. There is no disputing that.
You said you'd give the benefit of the doubt to the police. I'm outlining a stroy for you explaining that I in my persaonl experience, am not so quick to give the benefit of the doubt to the police. I've seen first hand that police are very capable of misinterpreting what they see. Thanks for your story about not getting a ticket ONCE. You have yet to acknowledge that NINE police were fired over this incident. Obviously the police dept itself feels something inappropriate happened. But you continue to conveniently dismiss that little detail.
we're all getting off subject, the issue isn't whether or not it happened, some police officers said it did. the issue is the jury.
These things still happen often. I'm surprised they did it with a lot of witnesses. It'll have to take one of the 9 to crack in order to get a real verdict out of this. Since they're police, they're probably well versed in the Prisoner's Dilemma. And because they're police, they'll get slaps on the wrists in light of their work. Such is the thin blue line....
This post is incredible. Why not whine about what an unjust double standard it is that it's not cool for white people to say n***er while you're at it? We live in such a color blind society it's gross, right texxx? Black folks are such whiners. Ever since black people were brought to this country they have been unjustly persecuted by the people in charge, most recently cops, way out of line with the relative crimes committed by them and white people. Black people have every reason in the world to resent the cops and no reason at all to trust them. And white people who don't get that are either stupid or racist. Or both.
There is some truth to this statement. I am concerned that it is also a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy. Someone that you resent/hate is probably going to feel that and is going to be less likely to cut you some slack.
I understand why you say this except that your theory doesn't explain how I got pulled over 13 times in one calendar year. The reason is I got pulled over is simple. I was attending Rice and my appartment was in West U/Bellaire area. At the time I was driving my grandmothers vintage, well-kept 1966 Impala. I got pulled over for anything at all. I recall once I was coming up to a stop light on Bellaire Blvd and decided I needed to make a left. So I turned on my blinker and got in the left lane crossing two lanes. I was the only car at the light and my car was straight, not sideways, when I pulled up to the light. I was pulled over by THREE Bellaire cops for making an "illegal lane change." I didn't get a ticket. My roomate was driving on 610 through Bellaire and got pulled over for speeding. They detained him for 1.5 hours so they could call in a drug sniffing dog. He got a speeding ticket, obviously, but nothing else. ---- Bigtexxx, I could go on and on and on but I'll spare you since you think "I'm whinning" anyway. My point is, I don't trust cops as far as I can throw them. Given that 9 cops were fired over this, I'm definately NOT giving the cops the benefit of the doubt regarding this article. I understand why you WOULD give them the benefit, however. I don't think you are ignorant for doing so either. As a white guy, I'm sure your experiences are different than mine. But you are off base casting judgement on me for my opinion on this matter since neither of us will ever know the truth.
1. I never said anything about you whining. 2. I never said anything about giving the cops in this case the benefit of the doubt. 3. I said that there was some truth to Batman's statement - the only reason I said some truth is that I don't think Black people have every reason in the world to resent the cops and no reason at all to trust them. I would say the statement is completely true had it been: Black people have reason to resent the cops and less reason than whites to trust them. I have been let off with a warning only once and every other time I have been pulled over I have been ticketed. My mother was also wrongfully arrested for assaulting an officer and resisting arrest. Thanks for assuming you know everything about me just because I'm white though. I also didn't cast judgement on you for anything, and never even mentioned your name in this thread. I'm confused by where all of your hostility is coming from.
Hell, I am white and I don't trust the cops. How could anyone trust them, they are as human as the next person, and prone to the same kind of greed and violence as the rest of society. I have several friends that are police, and man, they immediatly changed when they started wearing the badge, serious attitude problems. I still kick their ass on the softball diamond though. WOOT ! DD
Woops, I attempted to edit my post because I was actually addressing all that stuff to Bigtexxx but my Roadrunner went out at exactly that point. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I'll go back and attempt to edit my post to clairfy that. Yes, I understand your confusion. Sorry. Editing my post now.
