Well then it depends on how you define tanking. By playing young players you know you will have less chance to win, to someone, that is tanking.

this is what's bad about the lottery system. A team shouldn't tank since there are still people paying money to see the games. The league shouldn't reward bad teams.

Every non-playoff team will have a random draft order, how does this idea sound ?

I don't know if we can pull off this Utah game. At home, our guys always sink to the challenge. But on the road, we have a disturbing propensity to get it together.

I think of the City of Houston as having a great winning tradition that's perhaps best captured by none other than the phrase "Clutch City." And the motto, "Don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion." I talk about both of these all the time to friends and foes from other parts, and when I do, I'm talking about the City of Houston, not about any of its specific teams, past or present. So when someone from, say, San Diego, would compare their city to ours and say they've got beautiful mountains, prettier beaches, and better weather, I would just smile and say: "We've got Clutch City. Clearly, God gave you second pick."

So yeah, if we're going to lose out, let's just do it well and do it right, in a way that sits right with our city's winning tradition.

Rest the starters. Tell the rookies and younglings to play their arses off and show us what they've got and why we should keep them next year, but not to overdo it and get hurt because that's not good for them or us. And for [insert your preferred divine being here]'s sake, let's f'in beat the long odds yet again and get that #1 pick!

The Sonics are dumbs, they have won 4 in a row, otherwise they may go up to #5 if they continued the losing streaks. They have givn up such a terrific chance that is badly aspired after by us, unbelivable.

In this world, either you go to screw otherbody or you are screwed, no one wants to be dumb, so every year at this time, parallels to the playoff chasing, the league should have another legitimate tank competition. Because it is a million times easier for you to lose a game intentionally than to win it, the NBA will become a farce, become a circus. Besides the simple math and smartness inside, there has something really obnoxious.

The Sonics are dumbs already, these tanking naysayers here are dumbs too.

They tanked at the end of last season, but that didn't make them a better team this year. And KG got called "overrated" more than ever before.

Minnesota finished last season winning 11 of their last 15 games and ended up with the 14th pick in the draft.

Now that Yao's broken his foot they don't even have to try tanking games.

Cripes! God really does mysterious ways. He's testing us. What does Yao's foot injury mean?

Pro-tank camp: See? This is exactly why you rest the starters!

Anti-tank: But wait, we're necessarily not against resting starters. That's a perfectly good, justifiable thing. We're just saying that if a guy's on the court, it's unreasonable to tell him not to play hard. On that issue, of whether the players should play hard, it's worth noting that Yao didn't hurt himself on some hustle play. He stepped on another guy's foot on a routine offensive maneuver; no unusual exertion involved.

Pro-tank: JVG should have never had him on the court in the first place.

Anti-tank: Perhaps, but management should've made that clear to him or else fired him for disobeying. And look at it this way. This is exactly what you wanted. Now Yao is out for the season, we'll likely lose out, and no one can accuse us of tanking. PLUS, it may even be a blessing in disguise: Yao might not be able to play for China in the summer. Instead, he'll have to rest. And we all know what happened last time Yao came off of an extended period of rest.

Pro-tank: It could've been worse. He could've done permanent damage. We're lucky.

Anti-tank: Yes, we are lucky. And I think we'll be lucky when draft day comes around. But maybe that luck will run out if we ever catch ourselves criticizing our players for playing to win. Maybe it was God's shot across the bow. "I can bring your big man down even if you only play him 8.5 minutes pre game at the end of the season. Just think of what I could do to him if he's drinking a slurpee instead of dressing for the game.."

Pro-tank: That's ridiculous. God had nothing to do with it.

Anti-tank: Maybe not, but I'm still going to pray that he'll be completely healthy for opening season, and that we're going to get a kick-a ... whoops, I mean a darn good draft pick. Besides, is there any doubt that God is a Rockets fan? Just look at the "R" in the Rockets logo: it's sittin' in an angel's halo!

    All together: Glory Be!

they almost failed today. we have to out-tank Twolves in the next game. it is not gonna be easy, given how stubborn JVG is.

Don't worry. JVG will put Wesley on Mccants and he'll go off for 40.

he will be benched when he scores 20. We have little hope of lossing the next game. Twolves have one goal in their mind: loss. JVG has one goal in his mind: win.

JVG may want to win, but we are still THAT bad, especially at home. If we can somehow win the Tank City game against Minny, then I'm pretty sure that we'll lose out and end up at the #7 slot. With a little luck, we could parlay that #7 slot into a top 3 pick. Think positive- err, I mean negative.

Whew...dodged a bullet tonight...and Yao getting hurt could be a good thing....more recovery time in the summer.

My thought exactly. Nine out of ten times, a broken bone is far better than a torn ligament. (Although foot and hand breaks can be tricky.) Maybe this will force him to put some extra time into working out the upper body. I'd like to see him shed some defenders like pesty gnats with a flick of the wrist next year.

Now that Yao is out, we could very easily lose the rest of the games. Assuming that happens, and the rest of the teams currently below us in the standings win the rest of their games in proportion to what they've done in their last 10, then we would move up to 7th worst record. It would be:

    Code:
    Team W	L
    --------	--	--
    Portland	22	60
    New York	24	58
    Charlotte	24	58
    Atlanta 26	56
    Toronto 27	55
    Golden State	31	51
    Houston 33	49
    Minnesota	34	48
    Boston 34	48
    ...

would you rather they go back to draft position by record (nfl style)? the team with the worse record doesn't always get the number one pick. ask charlotte about their lotto luck. they would have chris paul right now if not for the randomness of the lotto balls.

why would they try to win games? Twolves have clearly decide to tank now. It is very hard to move up along the ladder now once more and more teams look into the tanking option. had we started tanking 2 weeks ago, we would secure a #6 position even if other teams loss all their games too.
