Which team is trading a top 10 pick for No Más Robinson?

I think teams with picks 7 -10 might pull the trigger, especially if you add our 2nd rounder.

Thomas is raw, but he's a major athlete with aggressiveness and length. He's also still pretty young. I don't see a noticeable advantage in the talent level of this year's 7-10 picks over Trob. I frankly wouldn't mind keeping him, but we have enough power forwards. If we could get Oladipo or Len I'd pull the trigger.

    1. It's not currently with the Rockets, but is easily obtainable. It has already been replaced by different skill sets at the PF position (rebounding, etc.). In a radio interview, Morey said that we had been getting below average production from the PF position this year. I think that's a pretty clear indication of how he viewed PP and MM, ultimately. That's why the trade happened. Because you don't lose sleep trading away an average to below average PF.

    2. Morey acknowledged the increased risk of missing the playoffs. However, he indicated that it was a slight risk, and not a big one. If you remembered all the playoff predictors at the time, it was more like going from 96% to 92%. Clearly PP was better than the others (he'd better be, he's a 3rd year veteran), but he was most likely NOT going to stop the Rockets from making the playoffs. That has been borne out. So even if the marginal increased risk bothered you then, it need not bother you now.

    3. What they got back in return was at least equivalent value. Even if you ignore the majority (frankly, it was close to consensus, but we can allow that some may have questions) reaction from around the league, the fact was that PP had one year left and was about to be paid more than the Rockets clearly intended to give him. His value was decreasing. As for Robinson, I get he doesn't have great numbers, but as another poster pointed out, Larry Sanders had worse numbers his first and second years. I understand Robinson is not ready now, but your impatience (for someone who is typically very astute) is really puzzling to me. Robinson has not had the benefit of the Rockets' development in the D-League, which has clearly improved a number of our young players. Trob in only in his first year. He clearly has talent and, if not high basketball IQ, apparently a very good work ethic.

    4. While Morey isn't always right in his evaluations, on a radio interview after the trade he basically said "We weren't looking to trade PP, but when TRob became available, it was a no-brainer and we jumped at the chance". For him to feel that confident, I would be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and wait 1-2 years to see how TRob develops before judging him a bust. In short, I think it's reasonable to question the deal isn't as one-sided as many people believe (although I believe it was a big mistake by Sacramento), I think your view of him as a likely bust is WAY TOO FAST rushing to judgment.

No way anyone is giving a lottery pick for Robinson at this point. Why would you trade your lottery pick for a former lottery pick that was already traded as a rookie (something that hardly ever happens) and then was glued to the bench on his new team in favor of other rookies? Not to mention the guy is undersized and a 3-yr college guy, which means he should have been more NBA-ready than most.

I can see of package of either Motiejunas or Jones + Thomas Robinson could get us into the #10-# range if we thought flipping two young assets for one was worthwhile (depending on the player).

Why would you trade up? Motie and robinsons upside is higher than most of the prospects outside of top 3

I think you're overrating the quality of this draft and under-valuing Robinson's upside, and again, there's a sweet 33rd pick we could use to help make the deal. Robinson has been under-whelming offensively thus far, but he's grabbing almost 11 rbs per 36. It's way too soon to label him a bust. If Robinson is under-sized at 6'9, what do you call Anthony Bennett at 6'7 who's pegged as top 5 pick with somewhat of an injury history?

I think you could definitely get a top 10 pick. I'm just not sure how high. There are guys in the lottery that may have marginally better skills at this point, but don't have the upside of Trob. We'll see what happens. I think one of our PFs is going though.

In Phoenix game, Smith missed 3 consecutive layups, horrible game. DMo with awful game, too.

haha way to grab part of a quote and blow it out of proportion. was saying we have a Rockets team right now that is about to play playoffs and you keep going on about the Patrick Patterson saga.

Do as you must, mate. I guess you have just that much time in your day.

    Carry on.

This team is about to lose to PHX for the 2nd time out of 4 games, may be 3 if not for fluke goaltend call. About to get 8th seed and get blown out 4 times by OKC and thus become unattractive to Dwight Howard. Happy days!

    ....:) Funny people.

Because Dwight was totally coming here before!

And because winning 1 game against Denver or 2 games against San Antonio would have totally changed his mind! Now that we're getting swept, no interest. :'( :(

Only if we had Patterson the great. We would not have lost to Phoenix and hell, we wouldn't even need Dwight either.

How are we going to move on without Dwight Howard or Patrick Patterson?

PS: I look forward to Patterson's Hall of Fame speech years from now. I hope he's kind enough to invite his 2 biggest fans, Carl Herrera & OtisThorpe3.

If you're mad about only getting Thomas Robinson for Pat Pat, you must be furious about paying Phoenix to take Scola.

I don't think Patterson makes a difference tonight, or most any other nights. On the other hand, getting playing time for TJones is great. I think he has a real chance to be a true difference maker.

    Avg.
    Pts 10
    Reb 5.8
    Fg% 60
    Min 21.6

These are trobs numbers when giving 18+ minutes of action for the rockets. I know it's a small sample size but its the only time he was allowed to play more than just garbage time. His Numbers are quite similar in sac when given 20+ min there also. This shows that he gets better as the game progresses.

I think these are the type of numbers Trob would have put up if not better had he went to a cellar dweller like the bobcats or the hornets. Obviously he wouldn't be shooting 69% but I do think his rebound numbers would have been a little higher like around 7-8.

Carl, I understand we're your coming from. Patterson was a better player for this team this yr, only because he was a 3 yr vet who had been with the team his whole tenure and new his role in the pick and pop/stretch 4. With that said trobs is a rookie with far superior upside than any pf we have had on the team in a long time hence the top 5 selection and rating on every draft board/ mock draft. He's already the better rebounder and has the potential to be a menace on the defensive side of the ball. He's a big time athlete with great length and physicality for the pf spot. He has alot of things offensively he needs to work on like his jump shot and finishing around the rim but these are things that always seem to improve in every player as the mature an get more experience at the NBA level. Couple that with his work ethic and feel for the game and we have a player that IMO has the potential to be our starting pf for years to come and a legit chance to become the 2nd scorer this team needs. He can draw fouls at a high rate and is the only big we currently have that can create offense for himself and others. I have watched all of trobs games at Kansas and admit that I am a very big fan of his but I also think that the stuff I mentioned above ate very realistic for him because of his talent and work ethic.

I know you prob won't agree with me but I so wish you would give him an offseason and training camp with the team before you label him a bust. His number are better or the same as many good bigs in the NBA in there rookie years. David lee had exact numbers his rookie season and now he's an 18 11 guy.

We missed Patrick Patterson so bad tonight. Van Gundy mentions Harden has struggled efficiency-wise the last two months. Well, what happened two months ago that might have prompted this dip in efficiency. I think Morey's done a great job, but let's admit it - that trade SUCKED.....

What??? Harden has been injured and worn out. Patterson sucks and is wildly inconsistent.
