I did a little research on that. Before Katrina the crime rate was spiraling out of control. After Katrina there was an increase, but things went back to normal level in about 3 months. Of course that normal level was out of control already. National Geographic did a great documentary on the influx of crime here and how quickly most of the criminals ran back to New Orleans.

The police chief and the mayor were extremely lax on crime and had more interest in strip clubs and hookers. I remember a e-mail debate I had with the mayor's office years ago regarding how much money they were spending on closing strip clubs that could be going to hiring new cops or giving cops overtime.

As for the story, this is extremely sad and whatever connection these two had, there is no reason for it to result in her death. I don't care if it was a love triangle, her mechanic, her yard man, whatever, she didn't deserve to die. I am glad they caught the guy and he is behind bars.

well, I have to admit that stating that a janitor or other "lower level" employee was probable as the culprit did sound a bit... well... just seemed poorly worded in the least, at least to me. The reaction was a bit over the top, however.

This struck me as odd too though. I guess I see what you're saying, but I don't know that I agree. So treating people kindly makes you a psycho magnet? Maybe she didn't treat the guy kindly, and that's what did it. We really don't know the nature of their "relationship."

Funny thing about psychos, you never know what sets them off. Advising people to be unkind to avoid them seems... I dunno. weird.

Bottom line, glad they caught the guy. Obviously it's a relief that someone capable of these things was caught.

If he meant that he probably should of mentioned criminal record in the post.

Not that I really care or offended by it.

Man, I had never thought about the possibility that the city was basically ignoring the spiraling crime rate to keep their focus on this ridiculous crusade on sexually oriented businesses. That would make for a interesting discussion in its own thread if one doesn't already exist.

I kinda agree with the guys criticizing ima, but I don't think all the indignation is really necessary

All of the above arguments are stupid.

Fact is we can all rest easier knowing there wasn't some crazed serial killer running amok in Houston.

Edit: Fatty, you really do have an uncanny ability to shart up personal tragedy threads - Great job!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not advising people to be unkind to them. However, some people will take things the wrong way when a person they are attracted to gives them positive attention. Often, they will try to take it to the next level, and are emotionally unequipped to handle the rejection.

Just think about Cameron Diaz's character in "Something About Mary". She was an attractive cool chick who was kind to everybody she encountered. Unfortunately, she had a whole host of psycho stalkers who had an unhealthy obsession with her.

You should know by now HPD is completely useless.

Never there when you need them, always there when you DON'T need them. You know what I mean?

I know people change over the years, but this dude was far from psychotic. I am just baffled that he turned out like this.....makes me wonder.....

Not really....he was a little eccentric, but I think that had to do with him being one of the "smart" kids. He was in all the advanced placement classes, but from what I remember he was a cool guy. I know people can flip at any given moment, but this is too weird. And they said he was arrested in December for a felony theft? WTF?

    No clue for him.

She worked for TXU in marketing.

He said he hasn't seen her since high school. Yeah, he just decided to kill her when he saw her first time since high school. He had to be stalking her for a while or something.

The fingerprints are a match. If there is any DNA evidence, he's done. He should start talking deal so he doesn't go to the chair.

Makes matters even weirder for me! He went to my Birthday party when I was in Kindergarten. My mother found the pictures today and sure enough he was in them!!! It just feels so weird to be linked to a weirdo like that.

He has a right wing mindset like Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity, so this probably would explain the hasty generalization.I'm not trying to be funny or conceding, but seriously.
