To the OP...so sorry for your loss. May she rest in peace and hopefully they find whoever did this. Just terrbile...
****ing horrible! I hope the rat b*stard rots in hell for what he did!!! **** THIS **** MAKES ME MAD!
i feel for the family... especially the husband, it must be devastating, and he was already loosing it before the announcement. RIP
What can be done, (and I would think this is being done in this case)... When a cell phone is powered on (even if it's not in a call) the cell phone pings nearby repeater towers. Cell phone companies are able to identify a telephone's location (not pinpoint, but general location) based on the phone pings. I hope that the investigators are able to use such methods to trace the route her phone took and hopefully nab those who did this.
They got surveillance video of her at Sonic, so I'm sure that they would have gotten it from Kohl's if it was available. Certainly it must not be, or they'd have had more info on all of this.
I think this particular incident is scary because the place where this particular crime happened is a well-to-do and fairly safe suburb in the far Northwest of Houston. When crime happens in this part of the town, it tends to be property crime, not personal. The shopping center where this took place is 2 minutes from muli-million $$ homes in the Champions area. My wife and I live and shop in this area, and while we understand that crime can happen anywhere, this is a reminder to constantly be vigilent when alone in parking lots. The circumstances haven't come out yet, and often the person knows their attacker in these cases, however, the fact that it was in a random parking lot during the day points to the probability that it was random. One thing I will point out about this particular store is that during the day this shopping area is usually fairly busy so that is also somewhat surprising.
this is just horrible and truly sad.. i'm so sorry for the family's loss... this had to have involved more than one person.. i pray that they get caught and brought to justice
I know what you're saying, in that it's just a little more shocking to those that live in such an area, and that it's in an area near you, but I assure you, it's scary to anyone around something like this no matter where it happens... probably more so in places where this, or other violent crime, happens more often. People who aren't "well to do" aren't any more alright with a thing like this happening or any less scared by such a brazenly horrific tragedy. However, I know it hits home since it's in your area, and you meant no disrespect. Condolences to her family, a sad and terrible tragedy.
All Kohl's department store's have camera's overlooking their parking lots. It is part of their Loss Prevention. These are not some 2-bit crap cameras. They are very good cameras that can zoom to great distances. I used to work at a Kohls on the north side near Kingwood.
Ugh what a nightmare. I hope they catch the person who did this, but still, there is no justice in a situation like this.
Well the problem lies with the fact that the cameras may not have been angled or zoomed towards her location, which would be why the Kohls security footage might not have been mentioned.
I believe a similar incident happened in Florida and the guy was never caught. http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2008-03-22-2911233640_x.htm I wonder if it is the same guy. If it is, then we have a serial killer in Houston preying on women in nice parts of town.
