I think they should have to go with how it is announced. If Harvey can't read the card, then he is the goat that needs sacrificing. That...or get Ms. Colombia a lot of cocaine so she can get happy again.
So, how did he actually read that card? If 1st gave him problems, isn't supposed to have already named the other two at the point of announcing the winner?
At it's heart the card is designed poorly. I will give part of the blame to that. But the language is clear on it. So ultimately this comes down to comprehension of what you are reading. I see how it could happen, but it was a lack of focus.
I know its just reading off the card, but you would think the organizers would at least have a practice run with the host. Live television with millions of people watching...always just double check everything? Or maybe they did and Harvey was just brain dumb from hanging around all the hotties. I would have definitely given it to Colombia for sure lol
Not sure why they didn't just say: 3rd place: usa 2nd place: colombia winner: philippines the whole 2nd runner up, 1st runner up on the left and then a tiny print on the right about the winner...i can see how it would throw him off. did no one else see the results? only the host? why did they wait 2-3 mins before they fixed the mistake.
This is what I imagined was happening behind the scenes: Then Steve had a second look at the card and realized by himself after 2 minutes that he had ****ed up and went back out on stage.
That was uncomfortable to watch. It was like watching the nightmares of preteen girls everywhere come true for miss Colombia.
Miss Colombia, Miss Philippines, Steve Harvey and the pageant as a whole will all come out ahead in the long run. They'll all be fine, move on, and one day have a laugh over the mistake. The pageant will conduct their review and make adjustments as needed for future events so that this error doesn't happen again. The next Miss Universe pageant will probably have higher ratings. (That said, I don't think Harvey will be hosting any more pageants.)
As a Miss Universe beauty pageant purist this makes me sick to my stomach. What was once a beautiful and sacred time honored tradition has been ruined by one man's decision and selfish act to not read properly.
I don't get the excuse that the ballot threw him off with the "1st" designation. Let's say the: 2nd Runner-Up USA 1st Runner-Up Colombia threw him off to think Colombia was first, and never saw the winner in the bottom right. That would mean he must have thought that Philippine was just missing for some reason on the ballot, since he must name her prior to the winner. So, did he just wing it, thinking the ballot was missing a name? Did he really think they accidentally omitted a name. I'd really like to see vid of the complete revealing of the Runner-Ups vs just the ending of the correction.
