And she keeps saying, "The Iraq"...and why South Africa of all places? And on top of all that, why even mention any other country other than the US...Her answer is horrible on so many levels.

Just like our educational system failed those 20% that cant locate the US on a map, its obvious that our educational system has failed her as well. Sad.

The thing is, it's a competition. Everyone in it knows that they're gonna be asked a question and most likely trained for it. Plus it's an easy question. The average person can probably ace that question while doing back flips (exaggeration).

Anyways, I've always thought that the prettiest ones win anyways. Not like anyone is expecting these girls to be geniuses. When I think of Miss _[fill in the blank]_ pageants, I always think of pretty little ditsy girls. Not smart. Isn't that the stereotype?

Wow. I know she's nervous because it is a competition and there is a lot of pressure on her, but still... That is pretty insane.

Ms. South Carolina, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

i feel that miss south carolina answered the question well because the education system, here, in the western hemisphere is very good compared to the third world countries where they do not have mtv and are unable to watch educational programs like sweet sixteen but the starving children in south america, excuse me, south central would do well to join the military and help our country fight the jihad in australia and other middle eastern countries that export fatty foods that are not good for the youth and society of today, which directly influences the leaders of tomorrow and will help shape our nation with hope, determination and integrity because this is a country worth defending. thank you

She should have said "because we care about teen beauty pageants instead of teen education."

1/5th of the Americans inability to locate the US on a map reminds me of a story I know called "The Puppy Who Lost His Way." The world was changing and the puppy was getting bigger. ----------- So you see the puppy was like Americans who can't locate the US on a map, in that they were both lost in the woods. And nobody especially the little boy "Society," knew where to find him. Except that the puppy was a dog, but Americans who can't find the US on a map my friends, are without maps. South Carolina football rules!

Was that a Billy Madison and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure reference tied into one?

I thought maybe it might sound better if it were written down. Here's the dialogue.

    Judge #5:
"Recent polls have show 1/5th of Americans can't locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?"

    Miss Teen South Carolina:
"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because.. uh.. some people out there in our nation don't have maps and I believe that our education, like such as in South Africa and.. uh.. the Iraq everywhere like such as and I believe that they should... our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S. - er, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future for..."

    Host:
"Thank you very much, South Carolina."

    Nope... sounds just as dumb.

I like the tone of the host's voice at the end when he thanks her. He sounds like he's speaking at a funeral.

I'm sure her parents are proud of her..... :D

Maybe she took some advise from Stephon Starbury.... he probably gave her the same shtuff he takes when he gives interviews.

The problem wasn't the speaking or her being calm, it was the logic. I mean she could have just b.s'd an usual answer like teachers need to get paid more or schools need to get more funding.

She still might not have realized she gave a stupid answer, unless someone later told her about it.

Jesus, people, she's 16 years old. The freaking President of the United States can barely say his name without butchering the English language beyond all recognition. Cut her some slack.

She made no sense at all!, 16 is old enough to be able to put a logical answer together....

it's like being asked 2 + 2 =? and you answer 44. if the answer was 22, okay she fudged up, makes a little sense.............but 44!?

Lol, i've given this too much thought....
