And for clarification, The blonde vet chick didn't get runner-up. She didn't even make the top 10.

No. My whole point is that the contest is no longer relevant. The winner is rarely the most beautiful, the most talented or even the brightest. None are terrorists. They are all beautiful women but I dare say none of them are the most beautiful simply because, like politics, beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. Why is there an importance attached to being "the first woman of Indian descent?" That smacks of political correctness -- we must be inclusive so we can prove we are one with all?

It was relevant until PC culture demanded that minorities win sometimes. It's just not America anymore.

Beauty is subjective. And in terms of talent-level or intelligence, it can't be sufficiently judged in this forum. So I agree with your point that contests like this are irrelevant.

But they are as irrelevant this year as they were last year or the year before. That's not a new story. What's noteworthy and sad this time around is the angry reaction from people just because the person who won looks like a foreigner.

It was relevant back when a TV show about co-habitation needed a genie and an astronaut to avoid pre-marital sex or pregnancies. It was relevant before pro sports cheerleaders, cable and Baywatch. Also, people in general were more attune to broadcast events like this, Indy 500: pre-Days of Thunder when it used to basically represent all of racing, or Dick Clark's Rockin Eve.

Well, I think I do agree with you a bit on the PC choices. There's always a contingent pulling for the demographic firsts -- like those pulling for the first female fed chairman (yawn). Can't help but think that setting a precedent of having the first Indian was part of the calculus. But, whatever, everyone has to hustle to make a buck. They're already exploitng their contestants' sexuality to get viewership, so I wouldn't put it past them to lever their ethnicities as well. But, it's a nonprofit, so I don't bother to worry too much.

Colbert just nailed the ridiculousness of this. "705 people saw a woman in a bikini and thought 'Muslim extremist'". He could barely hold it together as he said it because its such an unbelievable notion.

considering that 49.9% of Americans(300 millions plus Americans) are non white...this comment...smdh...

All this hate for a chick thats Indian in heritage, but a born and raised American. Born and raised NYorker... Me personally, I have seen hotter Indian chicks, and she ok...but kudos to this young woman for having some thick skin to stand up to racist and ignorant America...Slowly, social media and other outlets have started identifying these clowns at an alarming rate. But you know, just keep claiming that your twitter was hacked..,
