I guess you didn't know the entire US Navy submarine fleet is powered by nuclear reactors. Has been for 20+ years with no accidents. Artest can only dream.

I seriously doubt Artest is on the trading block - he was last year and a deal didn't happen. But if he is I'd take him. Miles & Randolph are crap. Only guy I want from Portland is SAR.

I really like Etan Thomas. big bodied banger is very young. Not much offense but has a very good tip-in. I think we should trade for him!

I agree with you. I don't think Miles has had the right coach to steer him in the right direction.

I'm not too hot on Randolph.

Ron Artest is a pipe dream.

I like this a lot...an athletic 2 guard who can shoot and create his own shot.

He would be worth bringing back at a full MLE.

One of the problems with Cat is that he shoots a little too much. The man has never met a shot he didn't like.

On a side note, what are the chances of us getting Cato back??

Good thread. It's those types of "misfits" that sometimes can be HAD for less than their perceived value because of their problems. You would be taking a gamble but sometimes you have to take that RISK to dare to be great.

Randolph - I think he would be a TERRIBLE fit here. He is a terrible passer and would dominate the left block where Yao needs to be. Also as GATER said I think he is a BYC guy and tough to trade for in any case.

Miles- This one is interesting to me because he is exactly the type of YOUNG and athletic guy the Rockets are looking for. AND I think he realistically COULD be had for expiring contracts. The Blazers might just give him away so they can start fresh. GATER brought up a good point about playing Miles at the 3 and having Tmac guard 2's. That would be a concern. But could Miles play the 4 spot? Not all the time, but in stretches. He would match up just fine against Dirk and Marion and 4's of that nature. And Miles is very good on the break. His shooting is getting better but still not all that great. Again, I think Miles IS obtainable for expiring contracts.

Artest - Probably the best of the bunch but unlike Miles I dont think Artest is obtainable with what we have to offer. The Pacers arent going to give him away for Expiring Contracts. They are going to want something of value.

I agree with GATER, ideally I would like to find someone that is more of a 2 or a 4. I think McGrady at the 3 is the right move. I was skeptical at first with this move but have been won over by it. Offensively, his quickness is an asset against most 3's and defensively he doesnt have to expend as much energy guarding 3s. It's a natural fit.

In the end, I think to get the best "value" for our expiring contracts we are going to have to take a RISK. No one is going to give us a solid player for those contracts. Teams are going to want to give us a "trouble player" for those contracts. A player that is a negative on their team. We just have to identfy the right player and go after him.

Another player you can probably add to the list but is a bit older is Jalen Rose.

    Good thread, thacabbage.

I think it was NIKEstrad that suggested we trade for Etan Thomas + a resigned Kwame Brown a month or so ago. The thinking was that they wouldn't have the money to re-sign both Hughes and Brown and obviously they would choose Hughes. With Etan being essential in their recent playoff push, and them probably not giving a damn about Kwame, this looks unlikely now.

Speaking of misfits, would anyone take a flier on a guy who quit on their team in the playoffs!? Probably way too fragile mentally to be on a JVG team, but the body and talent is intriguing.

Would anyone take a Thomas+Brown misfit combo?

Artest would make us a contender. Instantly. I have no idea what he'll go for. Indiana might get some serious quality - but maybe not. They're not going to get full value, at least.

    The other two? Nah.

I did. I've liked Etan ever since he came out of college. Great size, effort, and is a natural shot blocker and rebounder.

Kwame will certainly be easier to obtain, but I'd wonder if we'd even consider it. One side note that probably doesn't matter...Arn Tellem is the agent for both Kwame and TMac. I would imagine if TMac wanted to get a look at Kwame, and he believed Kwame would blossom here, he could get it done.

Just imagine both Artest and JVG on the same team. Stern's 2 most reviled arch-nemeses. I'm lovin' the thought of it already :)

This should tell you all you need to know about Randolph:

"I just don't want the day to come where I pick up that paper and it says (Zach] shot someone, or that he was shot. Every day that goes by that I don't see that, I feel good."
-- Moe Smedley, Zach Randolph's high school coach

Can any photoshop guro get Artest in a rockets Uniform?

This is by far my #1 target. Well worth the risk and JVG dealt with Sprewell. This makes sense

That exactly what I was thinking when I think about acquiring Artest. Not only is Artest the best perimeter defender in the NBA but he would instantly become our 3td best scoring option. He can hit the 3 point shot and also has a nice little post up game. IF JVG can control Spree then I think he could certainly control Artest.

What we can possibly give up to get Artest is a good question? A package of expiring contracts (spoon, moochie, baker) + Wesley/James/Sura + 1st round pick is what I would offer for him. I doubt the Pacers accept that offer however. After all, Larry Bird is no Isiah Thomas.

    salaries match on this:
houston jho + james + moochie + pick/s or cash
    indiana artest+ bender

and it still looks like an uneven trade in favour of the rockets.
