They're closer to the truth than not. I'll revise their statements slightly.

    1. The Rockets want to be a good 3-point shooting team, only this season they are absolutely horrid.

FO's philosophy is well-known around the league esp. with the media reports out of the Vipers' experimentation.

    2. The Rockets are bad at team defense; they have good individual defenders in Bev, Dwight and Jones (sometimes).

But we allow teams to get runs on us when our offense falls apart and our defense can't pick up the slack.

Asik is unhappy and that will cause chemistry problems.

Steve Kerr seems to be aware we're also 2nd in the league in paint points. We're not a 3 point shooting team, we're a not very many long 2's shooting team, we replace those with 3's.

In general the mainstream media would just prefer it if all Houston sports were relegated to the depths of suckitude. This goes across the board for all teams.

They want the Rockets to prove to the world that Moneyball and advanced stats doesn't work in basketball. They want James Harden to be an inadequate superstar, and Dwight Howard an immature jokester incapable of leading a team to greatness.

They want the Astros to keep being in last place. It's a golden age in sports radio right now because Colin Cowherd can go on the airwaves and make fun of Houston's current team while using that to argue that Craig Biggio shouldn't be in the HOF.

They want the Texans to draft Manziel or Bortles and then point and laugh when we fall flat on our faces yet guys like Clowney, Mack, Robinson, Donald, and yes Teddy Bridgewater go on to have success elsewhere. They want us to be like the Raiders or Browns where we have perennial early picks yet it doesn't matter because we always screw it up.

Yep, kids. These are all the narratives perpetuated by a largely white, male, insular group of stodgy, dying writers and media executives in their crumbling ivory towers in other, "better" parts of the country. Don't listen to what the both-coast-biased manipulative media would try to tell you. All they are trying to do is get you to hate yourself and to hurt yourself. Screw them.

I would concur that the Rockets are a 3 point shooting team and not good at defense.

The Rockets aren't good at shooting 3's, but they shoot a lot of them. They have for years now.

I don't know the point per game allowed stats, but I watch every game and see giant holes and opposition scoring way too easily.

You are correct! So I fully expect to hear the media babbling on about these three things a year from now, after we've fixed them. :p

Accurate description of the national sports media on Houston. The one exception I can think of is Jim Rome, who always seemed pretty positive on Houston sports, at least the Texans over the past few years.

When even our fans don't know what is going on, so how could media people who don't watch the team know?

We shoot the most 3's, but the fewest perimeter shots overall. People are just blinded by the boxscore, just because we don't take 20 footers.

''You know they can get on a hurry with their 3pt barrage, no lead is safe against this Rockets team''

if only this would be the case more often this year...
