I don't know that anybody's confused, but you're essentially correct about how a Traded Player Exception gets generated.

In that "Head to Chicago" example, we aren't getting Chicago's TPE; we get a new one, and if Chicago is using one to make the deal, they lose part of theirs.

There ARE non-simultaneous trades, in which a team has a year to complete a trade, and the credit that they have in the meantime is called a TPE.

I don't know if he's going to be special, but I'd MUCH rather have Crittendon than AB.

my take on it is, they know it's going to be a long process getting landry to sign a contract, so i think it will be a 2-1 kinda deal to free up a little salary so they can go ahead and sign dorsey to a contract with out touching landry DOUGH. Thats what i think will happen and when they get the ok thats when they will sign dorsey!!!

To get Crittenton, the Magic would most likely surrender veteran shooting guard Keith Bogans and multiple draft picks. Orlando has a glut of shooting guards with Pietrus, Bogans, J.J. Redick and rookie Courtney Lee.

    http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_a...lando_has_serious_trade_talks_for_crittenton/

Head is younger then Bogan and is a better player, so maybe Head+1st+2nd for JC.

But since it a divisional rival, they might up the price to us.

If the Nets are out of it, we could possibly swing the expirings plus Hayes plus a pick or possibly Donte Greene if he shows promise for a guy like Vince Carter. There's one. Expirings, young talent, and picks.

What if Detroit can't get a deal done and Stuckey has taken over the point and they want to unload Chauncey at the trade deadline so they can be buyers in the free agent market next season? Expirings, young talent, and picks.

What if Minny decides to save money and unload Miller and Cardinal (which I think they plan on doing)? Expirings, young talent, and picks. No, Miller is not a superstar but you've got to have the room to take on that contract.

What if Sac Town decides they would rather with Houston than the Lakers? What if they can't get Lamar Odom to agree to a contract extension? (If I was Lamar, I wouldn't agree to an extension, I'd hit the market next off season.) You need the expirings to hand them for Artest and KT. Expirings, young talent, picks.

What if Chicago can't find any takers for Hinrich's contract? Expirings, young talent, picks.

What if the Knicks are willing to give up Jamal Crawford for the first team that takes back Jerome James? Expirings.

What if the Cavs can't get anything for Szczerbiak's expiring contract?? Send them expirings they can cut with maybe one player or pick.

What if Bird figures out Indy isn't competitive and decides to dump Dunleavy for expirings, young talent, and picks?

What if Milwaukee decides it ain't gonna work and they want to move Jefferson for expirings, talent, picks?

What if Larry Brown gets to training camp and him and JRich or Wallace clash big time?

Too many possibilities that an expiring contract helps.

I just cannot see how Rockets fans see anything in Luther at all. The guy just flat out sucks. He's lucky he even got drafted and ever even played in the NBA.

Yeah. A lot of people here keep asserting he can do all these things at least "decently". Sorry, but Luther Head can't pass, can't dribble, can't create his own shot and can only hit open jumpers off passes. Plus he's a 6-3 185 SG that can't defend at all. His defense is atrocious.

Sure Novak is a 3rd string SF, but he's still better than Luther.

If Novak was better then Luther, I tend to believe JVG OR RA would have played him A LOT MORE then he has.

    He's a liability all around.

Once he gets into the game, everybody knows what he's there for.

    Catch and shoot 3PTers

......or maybe hitting a technical FT

Minus the playoffs, Luther has been serviceable.

Not good, not an All-Star, but serviceable. That is fact.

You may or not like him, but your view is null and void making ridiculous comments such as Novak is better then Luther.

    Null and void.

What exactly are you basing that off of?

It sure isn't NBA game play.

As much as I can't stand Stonehands Hayes, I do respect his hustle and would miss him.

That first sentence says it all. Luther cannot handle pressure and I personally do not want to have to rely on bench scoring from a guy that can't make a layup when it really matters

I would rather have Novak than Reddick also

71.32 M + MLE.. Would be around 77 Mil Its hard to get under the cap unless they trade some of the bigger contracts to teams that are under the cap.

Francis has zero value right now. Until he shows he can still contribute in some way consistently, he's nothing more than an expiring contract, which doesn't have much value until the trade deadline.

It's gotta be Head and Novak.
