If Landry,Deke and Dorsey are signed it will be 15 contracts. Is there a need for Singletary,Ewing for the trade to go through unless we need to include Novak to get the job done?

    Exactly!
If this were the MINOR trade, what would be a MAJOR trade look like?

Novak cannot be traded using the Minimum Player Salary Exception, even though he makes the equivalent of the league minimum, since he was signed using a portion of the MLE. The same will hold true for Dorsey if he is signed using MLE money.

I actually sent an email to Larry Coon of http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm asking about that.

I wrote, if a minimum salaried player was signed using the MLE to attain extra years on his contract. Is he still eligible to be traded using the minimum salary exception?

    His reply was:

That is very interesting. I do not doubt you. It's just curious that Larry's answer seems to contradict his own language regarding the Minimum Player Salary Exception:

    http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#19

The terms of the Minimum Player Salary Exception (for both signing purposes and trade purposes), according to Larry himself, cannot be contracts lasting more than two seasons.

I'm wondering if Larry gave your email much thought before responding. That being said, I will defer to Larry, since he is the expert.

Still, if that is true, then Larry needs to update his NBA Salary Cap FAQ site to adequately include this information.

Is Novak actually getting paid an amount exactly equal to the league minimum for the upcoming season or is he getting slightly more than that (for example... $5,000 more than minimum)? I understand that he got a little more than the minimum for at least one of the years during his 3 year contract, not sure if he does for this upcoming third year.
