    That's great.

I think it's good for young players that are both expected to be in the big league and are playing at a level that warrants a promotion, to be promoted to the big league.

I think the more time and expoure an MLB player has at the big league level, the sooner they play towards their expectations (or the sooner we find out they're not cut out for the big leagues).

I think having actual big league success is more valuable than any BS minor league playoff run.

There is obviously a difference in theory between you and Astros management. The whole problem with your thinking is that we are so naive about what goes on behind closed doors. We don't know why Springer is staying down so it is pointless to argue it when nothing is getting accomplished. Also, when Springer comes up and does well, all of y'all against keeping him in AAA will be saying "I told you so", when in fact it could have been his extended time in AAA that helped him get ready for the big leagues.

How terrible would you feel if Springer came up here and was a dud for the rest of the season. It ruined his confidence and he never regained it, leading to a piss poor career. In the midst of a terrible season for the Astros, when bringing him up will have no impact on the big league club.

Patience is tough in rebuilding, especially in baseball, but most of the time it is for the better. Wait until the development team thinks he is completely ready and then unleash him.

Relax... its a discussion board. Nearly every discussion had here, whether its questioning a managers move, questioning why a hitter took a pitch, and questioning why a pitcher threw a certain pitch is done without "intimate knowledge" of why it happened.

If we can't discuss why Springer is or isn't up in this venue, where can we discuss it?

And they'd have a case to say "I told you so". More so than any case that dominating a bunch of has-beens/never-will-be pitchers at AAA has towards a players "development". I'd believe more in the "more time in minors leads to better players" theory if there weren't so many damn examples of great players who hardly spent any time in the minors.

He's 24... not 19. If that's the type of player Springer is at this advanced age, then the Astros don't have much to work with anyways. Also under your scenario, it wouldn't matter if he failed now, or failed at the start of next season, would it?

He's 24 and dominating AAA. Calling for his promotion now is not being impatient... unless you want him to be a free agent in 2021 instead of 2020.

    How about that.

Josh Hader throws 6 shutout innings and allowed a hit in his first start as a member of the Astros organization, and tonight, he can't get out of the 1st.

Bright side: Carlos Correa is 2-2 with a 2-run single.

Weren't Cosart and Villar in risk of being selected in the Rule V draft if they weren't added to the 40 man roster? Springer isn't eligible and if they add him right now then that takes away one open spot to protect a prospect that is eligible. (just a guess)

It isn't about space right now. It is about space in November. Since they were already on the 40 man, calling them up doesn't harm anything. Calling up guys that will be added to the 40-man roster before the Rule V draft are also easier to add to the 40-man because you were already going to do that (Singleton would fit that description). Also guys you are willing to expose to waivers, it doesn't really matter.

There is a lot of thought to go into these decisions beyond what the typical fan thinks about.

Yea maybe, but I'm sure we will sale a few more 40 man guys to whatever organization is willing to take on their minimal salary

Anyone know who the top draft prospect is for 2015??

Maybe another arm to add to Appel and Rodon?

Depends on how Luhnow values certain players. I expect us to have 39 players to allow for a Rule 5 pick to be added as well.

Lets hope we don't have to care about that.

    Wednesday Stories

Battle of top pitching prospects in Northwest Arkansas.

    OKC faces a former Astro.

The GM was in Lancaster. Did he witness a Jethawks win?

    Recap

    Tucson 8, Oklahoma City 6

The Redhawks walked off with a loss in the game and the series as Hector Ambriz failed in the 9th inning. They also squandered a 6-1 lead.

The game started off well enough; OKC put up 4 in the top of the 2nd to open the scoring. Che-Hsuan Lin hit a sac fly double play, Ruben Sosa hit an RBI single, and Trevor Crowe ripped a 2-run double. They got a pair of RBI doubles from Sosa and Jose Martinez in the 4th. Sosa finished 3-4 with 2 runs scored, while Rene Garcia went 2-3 with 2 runs scored. George Springer and Jimmy Paredes also had 2 hits apiece.

Bobby Doran threw well; he went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, walked 3, and fanned 4. Jason Stoffel allowed 3 runs on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1 in the 7th. Pat Urckfitz got 2 outs in the 8th via strikeout. Hector Ambriz came on and got the last out of the 8th, but.... yeah.

By the way, Jason Lane came on in relief for the Padres, and he threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits, walking 1, and striking out 2.

The Redhawks will look to avoid the sweep as they wrap up this West Coast roadtrip. Jake Buchanan will take on Keyvius Sampson at 7:05 Pacific.

Northwest Arkansas 1, Corpus Christi 0

Nick Tropeano had a fine outing as he went the distance.... in a loss. He allowed a solo homer to Matt Fields in the 7th, which ended up in him getting saddled with the L. Tropeano allowed 5 other hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. Enrique Hernandez went 2-4 with the Hooks' only hits of the evening.

The Hooks will look to avoid the sweep as they send out Ross Seaton for the finale. He will take on Jason Adam at 7:00.

    Lancaster 6, Inland Empire 5

Well, there was one walk-off that went the right way in the system last night. The Jethawks won the series as Jeff Luhnow graced The Hangar with his presence.

Down 4-0 in the 6th, they rallied to tie the game. Chris Epps drew a walk, and he suddenly found himself trotting home as Nolan Fontana sent one out (8). 3 consecutive singles from Carlos Perdomo, Joe Sclafani, and M.P. Cokinos loaded the bases; Tyler Heineman hit a sac fly to bring Perdomo home, and Jesse Wierzbicki reached on a fielder's choice to score Sclafani.

Though the tie only lasted 1.5 innings, as Anthony Bemboom hit a 2-run homer off Jordan Jankowski in the 8th, the deficit lasted .5 innings, as the Jethawks immediately tied it. A Jesse Wierzbicki single and an error allowed Sclafani to re-tie the game in the bottom of the inning. Sclafani, who finished 4-5 with a triple and 2 runs scored, delivered the winner, which was a single with the bases loaded. Carlos Perdomo and Tyler Heineman had 2-hit nights.

Aaron West went 4 innings and allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits (2-run homer), walked 1, and struck out 1. Blair Walters threw 2 2/3 scoreless as the first man out of the bullpen. He allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and fanned 4. Jankowski allowed the homer to Bemboom in the 8th. That was the only hit he gave up in 1 1/3, as he walked 1 and struck out 2. Travis Ballew allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 2 in a scoreless top of the 9th.

The Jethawks will go for the sweep as Mike Hauschild will take the mound. He'll look to rebound from an outing in which he gave up 10 runs in the 1st against High Desert. His opponent will be Drew Rucinski. First pitch is at 7:00 Pacific.

    Clinton 9, Quad Cities 7

This game was back-and-forth early, but Clinton put up 1 each from the 6th-8th innings to take the series opener.

Down 4-0 in the 2nd, Rio Ruiz led off the inning with a homer (9). The River Bandits took the lead with 4 in the 3rd. Teoscar Hernandez and Carlos Correa scored on a 2-error play that allowed Danry Vasquez to reach and advance to 2nd. After Bobby Borchering singled and Rio Ruiz popped out, Terrell Joyce hit a 2-run double. The LumberKings got 2 in the bottom of the 3rd to take the lead, but Correa put QC back in front with a 2-run single. Correa finished 3-4. The River, Tony Kemp, and Borchering each had 2 hits.

Josh Hader, after throwing 6 shutout innings in Cedar Rapids in his first start as an Astro (River Bandit), only recorded 2 outs, both via strikeout. He allowed 4 runs on 2 hits and walked 4. Dan Minor went 3 1/3 and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. Pat Christensen went 2 innings and allowed an unearned run, walked 1, and struck out 2. Zach Morton got the loss, as he allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, walked 1, and fanned 1 in 2 innings.

In the middle game of this series, Lance McCullers will take on Scott DeCecco. First pitch is at 7:00.

    Connecticut 4, Tri-City 2

The ValleyCats dropped their first game after their All-Star break. The Tigers scored 3 in the 5th to take control of the game.

Ronnie Mitchell hit into a force out in the 2nd to put Tri-City on the board first. Mike Martinez, who went 2-3, scored on the play. Tyler White hit an RBI single in the 3rd.

In his first appearance since July 19, Kyle Westwood struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 1st. Tanner Bushue went 4 innings and allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 7. Tyler Brunnemann allowed a hit and fanned 2 over 2 scoreless innings, and J.D. Osborne walked 2 in a scoreless 8th.

The ValleyCats and Tigers will wrap up this brief series at 7:05 Eastern. Starters TBA.

    Johnson City 9, Greeneville 4

The Appy Astros got buried by a 4-run 5th and they ended up dropping 3 of 4.

Enderson Franco went 6 innings and allowed 7 runs on 7 hits (solo and 3-run homers to Rowan Wick) and struck out 6. Krishawn Holley allowed 2 runs on 2 hits and walked 2 in the 7th, and Gonzalo Sanudo struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 8th.

Alfredo Gonzalez homered (2) to lead off the 3rd. Marc Wik scored on a wild pitch in the 6th, and in the 9th, the Appy Astros got a pair of RBI singles from Gonzalez and Tanner Mathis. They both had 2 hits.

Greeneville's roadtrip continues with 3 in Pulaski beginning at 7:00 Eastern. Chris Lee will take on Ramire Cleto in the opener.

GCL Yankees 4, GCL Astros 0

The Kissimmee Stros walked off with a loss as Juan Carlos Santos served up a grand slam to Jorge Alcantara. Jean Carlos Batista had the only hit for the GCLstros.

Francis Ramirez threw 5 shutout innings and allowed 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. Zach Dando gave up 3 hits and struck out 2 over 3 scoreless frames. Santos failed.

Home stretch. In 2 weeks, the GCL season is done. These two teams will go at it again in Kissimmee at noon Eastern.

DSL Astros 12, DSL Royals 0

The Academy completely dominated the Royals. They pounded out 15 hits and for the most part, capitalized on 4 Royals errors. Everyone had a hit except for Kristian Trompiz, who went 0-4 with a walk and a strikeout. In fact, 6 players had at least 2 hits.

Randy Cesar opened up the scoring by opening up the 2nd with a homer (1). Jesus Bermejo went 2-5 with 2 RBI singles, the first of which came in the 4th. Brauly Mejia then scored on a wild pitch, and Jean Carlos Cortorreal added an RBI single of his own. In the 5th, Arturo Michelena hit an RBI double and wound up scoring himself, thanks to an error. Jarico Reynoso hit an RBI single in the 6th. Luis Payano hit a solo homer (3) in the 8th. Bermejo added another RBI single in the 9th, and then Mejia scored on a passed ball, and finally, Reynoso hit a 2-run triple. Payano, Mejia, Bermejo, Cortorreal, and Reynoso all had 2 hits; Cesar was 3-4 with 3 runs scored.

Gerardo Juarez threw 3 scoreless and allowed 3 hits, walked 1, and fanned 5. Juan Hernandez allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2 over 3 scoreless. Yhoan Acosta allowed a hit and struck out 2 in 2 scoreless frames, and Geronimo Franzua walked 1 and fanned 1 in a scoreless 9th.
