Ahh, he doesn't have FB velocity. Never mind then, unless he has an amazing change up (Trevor Hoffman style), that'd probably make it difficult to be a closer. If the curve is his best pitch then I guess that'd explain the K #'s in college.
A good changeup, but don't think it will cut it in the majors. He's a guy that I picture getting hammered if he ever has to go to Lancaster.

The Redhawks will close out July with game 2 of this 4-game set. Wade LeBlanc will take on Mike Bolsinger at 7:05. San Antonio 4, Corpus Christi 1 Mike Foltynewicz was all over the place in 5 innings and got outpitched by his opponent, Keyvius Sampson, as the Hooks dropped the series opener. Folty labored through his 5 innings, as he allowed 3 runs on 4 hits, walked 5, and struck out 5. It took him 97 pitches (51 strikes) to get through this one. He also uncorked 2 wild pitches. T.J. Geith threw 1 2/3 scoreless, allowing a hit, walking 2, and fanning 4. Andrew Robinson allowed an unearned run on 2 hits in 1 1/3. He'll take on Josh Geer at 7:05. Lancaster 10, Lake Elsinore 4 The Jethawks battered the Storm to the tune of a 2-homer night from Brandon Meredith (14). They also jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the 3rd. Matt Duffy kicked things off with a 2-run homer (18) in the 2nd. Nolan Fontana grounded into a force out that scored Meredith, and M.P. Cokinos, who has been slumping horrendously as of late, drew a walk with the bases loaded. Duffy led off the 3rd with a ground-rule double and came around to score on a Chris Epps single. Meredith then hit the first of his 2 homers. Lancaster added single tallies in the 6th-8th innings to finish off the Storm. Duffy hit a sac fly in the 6th, Meredith homered to lead off the 7th, and Tyler Heineman hit an RBI single in the 8th. In addition to his homers, Meredith finished 4-4 with a double and 3 runs scored. Heineman was 3-5 with 2 doubles and a run scored. Duffy went 2-4 with 2 runs scored. The scoreless streak was snapped at 29, as Conrad Gregor hit a solo homer (2) in the 3rd to put TC on the board first. But, the Spikes responded with 4 in the bottom half of the inning, and the ValleyCats never recovered. Gregor finished 3-4. The other Tri-City run came in the 8th, as Brett Booth grounded into a force out that scored Chan-Jong Moon. Randall Fant went 3 innings and allowed 4 runs on 7 hits and struck out 1. Pat Christensen threw 2 scoreless, allowing a hit and striking out 3. Zach Morton allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 2 innings, and Albert Minnis worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 8th. Evan Grills and Kevin Comer will take the mound in the middle game of this series, as the ValleyCats look to break this 5-game losing streak. They will take on Juan Bautista at 7:05 Eastern. Burlington 7, Greeneville 6 A late rally from the Appy Astros fell just short. They almost came back from a 6-1 deficit with 3 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th. Greeneville got an RBI single from Angel Ibañez in the 4th, which would be their only run until the 8th, when Ariel Ovando hit a 2-run double. He later scored on a groundout from Alfredo Gonzalez. After the Royals added 1 in the top of the 9th to make it a 7-4 game, Ricky Gingras made it a 1-run game in the bottom of the 9th as he hit a 2-run single. But he (well, Tanner Mathis) was stranded as Ibañez flied out to end it. Edison Frias went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits (solo homer) and struck out 2. Tyler Brunnemann got knocked around for 3 runs (1 inherited) on 4 hits in 1 2/3 innings. He struck out 2. Ryan Connolly allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and walked 1 in 1 1/3. Both games in this series have been decided by 1 run. In the rubber game, Frederick Tiburcio will take on Andres Machado. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern. GCL Astros 6, GCL Yankees2 3 According to Jake Nottingham, someone was hitting 99 on the gun.

Our pitcher today was throwing 99 mph....
— Jacob Nottingham (@JayNott) July 30, 2013
It was Reymin Guduan. The Kissimmee Stros finally put the Yankees away with 3 in the top of the 9th. Javaris Reynolds was 2-5 with an RBI triple in the 3rd that put them on the board first. The GCLstros will head back to Kissimmee as they'll host the Pirates at noon Eastern. DSL Astros 8, DSL Dodgers 2 The Academy turned the tables on the Dodgers as they scored 7 unanswered to run away with this one. Luis Payano finished a home run shy of the cycle. He scored the 1st run of the morning on an error in the 3rd, and then he cleared the bases with a triple in the 4th. Not long after, he scored on a wild pitch. Payano capped off his day with an RBI single in the 8th. He's now hitting a much, much more respectable .241/.339/.351. Randy Cesar hit an RBI single in the 7th. Sanchez was formally added to the roster last Friday and he made his debut that day, too, allowing 2 hits and striking out 1 in 2/3 of an inning against the Royals.
Does anyone else pronounce Max Stassi's name as one word in their head so that it resembles the word ecstasy? #maxstassi He should come up with his own scent. Sorry, I don't really have anything else to contribute outside of that. Carlos Correa sure has a lot of RBIs.
Updated Mayo's top 20 on MLB.com 13. Hader (between Vazquez/Woj) 15. Kyle Smith (between Woj/Ruiz) 18. Hoes (between Tucker/Vasquez) Falling off: Stassi Peacock Thurman
Jeez our Quad Cities team just got stronger. Correa, Hernandez, Vasquez, Ruiz Appel, McCullers, Velasquez, Hader Stacked.
Wow. When Stassi and Thurman are dropping out of your top 20, you are loaded. Impressive that JMax was flipped for a #15 in this system. The future is getting brighter and brighter.
Kyle Smith has dominated high A. I wonder if we go ahead and send him to CC I hope they promote David Martinez and Bobby Doran to AAA, and Rollins and Smith to AA. It seems all 4 of them have established success at their current levels. I'm fine letting Folty finish in AA. No need for Wade LeBlanc and Ross Seaton to be getting starts at this point. AAA Wojo Peacock Buchanan Martinez Doran CC Folty NiTro Alaniz Rollins Smith

Hah just bored today. I finished my internship for the summer and all of my friends are still working until the end of the week.
This is ridiculous. Seriously, I'm surprised he's not getting intentionally walked now. And if you do have player that's getting IBBs in the minors, do you just promote them immediately? Weird problem to have.
Stassi is white hot right now. With his defensive prowess if he can complete a full AA season with an OPS up around .900 he should shoot up prospect lists.
