This is so sad. The attack on ALL police is so wrong. The majority of the police force do the right thing and are there to protect and serve. This we must remember. Yes we need to weed out the POSs and I don’t know what the percentage is but again the majority of police aren’t out looking to suffocate someone.

I have suggestions. First, federally mandated reporting of police use of force incidents including shootings. We need all the data, not random reports on the news or youtube every other week. You fail to report, you lose funding. Second, an independent body that investigates and prosecutes police use of force incidents including forensics, medical examiners, and prosecutors. The notion that the cops can investigate themselves, that detectives, medical examiners, and prosecutors will do their jobs without prejudice is completely ridiculous. Third, committing crimes against police are capital offenses and crimes committed by police should be equally as harsh. You get caught lying, falsifying evidence, and such as a public servant you should get severe penalties. Four, stop hiring former infantry soldiers as police. They're not the same jobs and being good at the one doesn't necessarily translate into being good at the other. Military culture is rampant in the police. Five, better training including use of force training, anti-bias training, and de-escalation training. A cop that cannot achieve high marks in a testing ground of these areas shouldn't be a cop. Six, mandatory body cams and audio for all police. Turning off your cam or audio should be grounds for termination. These videos should be made available to the public within 48 hours of any incident. Seven, the threshold for use of force is too lenient. It's subjective and easily manipulated. We see time and again in other countries police take the time to de-escalate. Whereas here it's a roll of the dice. Seven, less overtime and more well trained police. You can raise taxes on you know who to pay for it. That's off the top of my head.
