he absolutely has a right to say whatever he wants...one great thing about living in this country!! :) All I'm saying is that I wish he wouldn't say things like that. I wish he'd let his actions talk...I wish he'd beat the hell out of Shaq and then just walk off the court with quiet dignity...like Hakeem Olajuwon did here in Houston for many years.

Don't get me wrong...I really like Yao so far...his comments that he recognized Shaq to be a challenge, but he's ready to get after him and try to conquer him were fantastic!!! I love that kind of attitude!! But it should stop there....now...go out and do it...and then let your actions speak for themselves. That's the kind of player I typically root for...and I think and hope that's the kind of player Yao will ultimately be.

Yao is the biggest star in China, so he has the right to talk things in CBA and he get used to it. However, he has not played a single NBA game yet, he'd better shut up for now and play some games first. If he is not careful with his talks, players in other teams may gang up against him and he will get injured real soon since he is still physically weak and not very coordinated in balancing his long body.

    pretty cool stuff.

    oh yea...on topic....duhhh

Charles deserves whatever smack ppl send back to him. I also think he enjoys the age-old male-bonding ritual of exchanging insults(smack) with ppl ...

Hey guys, Yao is already 300 pounds. I don't think Shaq, Dream, Russell or Wilt weighed that much at 21. Yao will be no pushover... at first he'll have to pay his dues, but after a few years in the weight room, he could be amazin', and it will be payback time ... I love his sense of humor and great attitude!

Hakeem was listed at 250 when he came into the league, which is a bit puzzling because he obviously has put on a fair amount of weight and muscle over the years and is now listed at 255. A more interesting comparison, weight wise, is Ralph Sampson. At 23 years old, Ralph came in to the league at 7'4" and 230, compared to Yao's 7'5" and 300. Ralph averaged 21 points, 11 boards, and 2.5 blocks as a rookie. Although the players are much stronger than they were 20 years ago, I don't think Yao will have trouble (strength and size wise) with anyone other than Shaq.

I like the part about Shaq. He openly know that shaq is the best player and most dominate and know he will lose some, but he knows that once he really learns the nba and gets stronger, he will climb that mountain top. I wish more centers in the league would try to play shaq instead of bowing down and complaining how big and strong he is. I wonder why Cato haven't decided to make strides to even compete with Shaq. I like his attitude already.

Yao's comeback was great, IMHO, and i look forward to more from Yao Too Tall !!!!!!!!!!!

i just saw a replay on ch. 2, he was at the freethrow line, took ONE QUICK STEP and dunked it, HARD .

Hopefully, the Round Mound of Rebound will personally work with Yao. Heapparently listens to what he says (unlike most of the other Rockets!)

Charles is actually Yao's favourite player from what I heard, he is just having some fun with the guy after Charles totally dissed him.

Yao won't just go hiding after Shaq completely slaughter him on court. It will only inspire him to work harder, and hopefully compete with him on equal terms one day. When Yao came into CBA aged 17, he was basically a stick and was often targeted and knocked to the floor by much older, stronger players. He was reportedly knocked to the floor 14 times in one game when he just started out. 4 years later, he has become the most dominant player that league has ever seen.

    -G'day-

    LMFAO!!!!

I love it! I liked Ming before, but I am loving him now!

How could you not like his witty repartee?

Chuck Barkley will grow to love him too, you watch.

P.S. Please keep this coming! Much thanks to Michecon and Windandsea. The diaries/other goodies were extremely helpful in enabling non-Chinese fans to get to know Ming better, not just his game but his personality as well.

I heard Shaq is going to retire in 2-3 years at the time when Ming reaches his prime. Just imagine how we are going to dominate the paint after Shaq is gone... *evil grin*

An interesting list. Looking at the 13 7-footers, only one (Joe Barely Cares) was a bust. Three had good/great careers shortened or hampered by injury (Ralph, Daugherty, and Walton). One incomplete, but probably a bust (Olowokandi). Seven worthy picks (Alcindor, Chamberlain, Robinson, O'Neal, Duncan, Ewing, Dream). The only top centers not on the list are Russell and Malone. I like these odds, if Yao can stay healthy.

The thing to remember about Moses Malone is that he went straight from high school to the ABA's Utah Stars. I can't find the height/weight stats from when he entered, but it had to have been less than the listed 6-foot 10, 255-260.
