I'm not talking about the jokes! Nor am I saying any one person is funnier than another! I don't care about that! The comedic implications are irrelevent here! Geez ... I'm talking about needing to plant someone in the audience to grease the wheels and pull your show off, which I equate with a politician paying a like-minded worker to sit in the audience of a debate and lob softball questions, or a basketball arena playing canned crowd noise to make it sound like there are more people at the stadium on TV. Forget about jokes, for once in your life, I'm talking about professional dignity.
Check out Steve McGrew at 8:30 est on comedy channel tonight, right before Mencia. No contest, McGrew blows Mencia out of the water
"Who's line is it anyway" was in large part staged. Most of the conversations on the late night talk shows are staged. Sam Kinison ROUTINELY planted a guy in the audience to do his cell phone bit. Sit-coms have laugh tracks. There is no Santa Claus. Professional dignity and TV ratings rarely see eye to eye. GET IT! sheesh...
Great, fine, just don't tell me that the reason I think Mencia is a cloying hack is because of some arbitrary sense of what's funny and what isn't...
There is much better support for the show to suck other than a plant in the audience that most of his viewing audience didn't know existed.
I've caught this show a few times. The only skit that made me really laugh is when he traveled the local gay areas of LA. It wasn't so much the jokes as it was the naked yoga bit.
Holy crap...You guys are ruining my thread... To each his own...You either like it or you don't...If you don't, change the channel...Chappelle is just as racy if not more, but IMO, Mencia's entire bit/show is about being loud and saying "beaner" alot, which to be honest with you I wouldn't like to be called that, but that's his perogative... Why can't we all just get along...Even she thinks you guys are cry baby's...
Wanted to bump this... I saw his season premiere this past Wed. night and overall...eh... I think he tries to hard to be funny...Don't get me wrong, some funny parts, but most of the time, it was akward, IMO...Anybody else catch it...
It just seems like he is trying to be Chapelle with his racial humor. Some is funny but he is no Dave Chapelle. I watched about 2 episodes and have not tuned in to it again. His use of the word "beaner" is horribly excessive and not funny at all.
Ned Holness has some funny bits, but it all appears too staged for me. i know it's common for comedians to stage certain aspects of their performance for effect, but Ned just makes it so obvious that it ruins the humor for me. i mean, really? Carlos Mencia? if he's trying to "stereotype" mexicans, why not Juan Rodriguez? Jaime Cruz? Pablo Gonzalez?
Mencia is hilarious. It's a different show than Chappelle so you can't compare the two. It's like comparing the Rockets to a basketball team.
They are different, we all agree with Chappelle being smart and consistently funny...But Carlos isn't that funny...I'll still watch for a while until I get bored, but maybe its better to see him in person...
