He did the same joke when he was in Houston a few months ago too.. I gave up watching that show, it really isnt that great..
Pretty much. A mess of advice, if you don't mind: if someone tells you "I'm cra-zy!," then he probably isn't crazy.
Yup. Not that I mind racial humor, but that's all he has and it's weak to boot. His delivery is weak as well. Hey, I'll scream in a whiney way and that'll make it seem like what I'm saying is funny. And his over the top fake laughs at his own jokes. Just a lame Chapelle show wannabe.
i just cant get into that show. i watched 2 episodes but i just find the guy terribly annoying. if he wasnt hispanic he would have no act. "latinos like siestas and beans - ha ha, im so funny."
I agree, I love Mencia, me and the wife have seem him plenty of time at the Improv. the show is a bit watered down. That really sad about Freddy Soto, we had seen him quite a few times as well. I hadn't heard about that
As I've watched more and more of his shows, I still think its funny, but my g/f always says "I know this bit, its about...", which in my mind means shouldn't you come up with some new stuff...I've never heard it so I think its hilarious, but she says the same thing being water'd down...
I won't defend just CARLOS MENCIA about that. I hate ALL racial jokes and comedians, but you won't tell me Dave Chapelle doesn't do the same whiney (I am black and I will scream it and that'll make it seem funny "thing"), would you? As long as someone does it first, he's the only one that could do it? "I'm Rick James, b****!". Take out the screaming, take out the profanity, and nobody laughs. I hate this. Get FUNNY crap in there. Can't believe most people find Friday funny. There is some FUNNY stuff in there, but most of it is slap-stick repeated profanity stuff. Learn from Steve Wright and George Carlin. EVERYTHING in their routines is funny.
I've heard some of his stuff on XM, but never thought he was that funny. He was funny, but it seemed like everything he talked about was stereotypes and more stereotypes. It got old.
I agree. I heard how great his show was, but was unimpressed when I watched it. Chapelle show is 10x better.
I was refering more to the stand-up and just regular talking portions of the show than I was the skits themselves. And no, Chapelle doesn't use it as much of a crutch as Mencia does in that regard. Mencia acts like a freaking drama queen. The skits are supposed to be over the top so whining and screaming during them is fine as long as they are funny and from the little I've seen from Mencia's show, he can't even get that right.
You do remember Dave’s "RACIAL DRAFT" right? Or what about the dice throwing championship skit with the holdup at the end?? Dave is just as bad.. Oh almost forgot what about the “****** Family” skit??
OK, Crisco, that sounds like a good argument. The fact of the matter is that any comedian NOT white can get away with saying "n*gg*" or "beaner" or "ch*nk" or crap like that and it is ALL stereotypical. If you see Steve Martin or Jim Carey EVER doing that, they will be stoned to death. Among some "minority" comedians who DON'T do ALL racial stuff whom I like: Pablo Francisco, Eddie Murphy.
My issue isn't what is and what isn't funny, it's the steps he takes to work his bits into the show. Think whatever you want about Seinfeld, but he never put a confederate in the audience to ask him "hey Jer, what do you think about airplane peanuts?"
Chapelle show was so much better without being as racist as Mencia. I guess Dave spoilt racy comedy for me forever.
Mencia's stand-up is much funnier than the watered-down, Comedy Central version on his show. It's hard for me to even watch it because I catch myself grading it based on when I've seen him in person.
You referenced his tasteless comedy vs. Seinfeld, and I say that what's tasteless to one man is entertainment to another. We don't all watch Jerry Springer, nor do we all watch the news, but someone does and that's why it's still on TV.
