Why didn't he just have someone steal the car instead and just have it magically disappear aboard a shipping container to Latin America? He could have still collected insurance money that way.
because with a vehicle in excess of the million dollar mark, there are safeguards for grand theft auto. Burning it is a different story, in which he tried to get someone to do.
See this is the little problem i have with the justice system... johnny can go out and help kill someone and than cut a deal and get a ten year sentence. meanwhile Andy drives his car in the water and tries to get a couple million and than he admits to what he did and he faces up to 20 years. maybe I'm wrong but 20 years should only be for murders, rapes or other violent crimes... not insurance fraud.
Insurance companies are just big banks. You're not supposed to **** with them!! Yeah, kinda rolling my eyes at 20 yrs too. Bunch of community service, fine and probation seems more appropriate. He ought to foot the bill for Philadephia's defense costs too.
I agree that there is something wrong with our justice system. What's wrong is that white collar crime like trying to defraud for $20million will not get him anywhere near to 20 years. I can't argue about murderers and rapists but my problem is the guys in jail for mar1juana possession longer than this dude will end up being in.
Except your murderer could probably get "up to the death penalty", and then gets 10 years. This guy could get up to 20 years, and probably would get far less. You do realize that the vast majority of people don't get the maximum possible sentence, right?
