I have watched the video again and couldn't help but notice something. When the officer initially put him in a headlock, he places his right arm under Garner's right armpit. He then places the top part of his left forearm, with his palm downward, around the neck area. You can see it's not a tight grip. This is not the way to choke someone to death. That move was done as part of a take down move. That move lasted for about half of the total 15 seconds the officer's arms had Garner in a head lock. Once they fell to the ground the officer had his arms around Garner's neck area for a few more seconds. Even if the officer had been trying to kill Garner, I don't believe he had a sturdy enough grip for long enough to suffocate him. You can tell he only had what may have been a tight grip for a few moments.
I think you are misunderstanding what a rear naked choke or other MMA style "chokes" do. They cut off blood to the brain. No trachea damage is done because the pressure is on the carotid artery and it takes very little pressure and takes only a few seconds for someone to go unconscious when done correctly.
Thanks for giving a text book definition of how to rear naked choke someone. Again, you don't know what you're talking about if you think cutting off someone's ability to breathe is the goal of the move.
He wasn't in a rear naked choke when he was talking about not being able to breathe. He never fully locked in the rear naked choke, or like you said he'd have been unconscious in seconds. The cop wasn't choking him out, he was getting him to the ground. We have proof that he could, in fact, breathe when he was saying that he couldn't.....he was able to talk. If you actually can't breathe, you can't talk. Do I have to explain the process to you?
Except he was pronounced dead an hour later......... "Garner's death was found by the New York City Medical Examiner's Office to be a result of compression to the neck, compression to the body, and prone positioning, along with asthma, heart disease and obesity as contributing factors."
I think during struggles it ends up being both a trachea choke and a bloodchoke. Its actually very painful and uncomfortable especially when u are getting grabbed by 5 people and u can't free your arm. I honealty feel bad for the big guy. No one deaerves to feel that way, the cop is a dumbass that should be punished.
And the cops didn't come to work that day hoping to fight with someone, that they wind up killing, likely losing their career and having to move away for fear of being killed. You feel bad for them?
At least he has his life and wasn't killed because of the distribution of a single cigarette. Heck, he may even get a million dollars from many in the public like officer Wilson got.
Says the guy who has spent half the thread thinking a rear naked choke is about damaging the trachea. Try again.
I never said the guy couldn't breathe while he was saying "I can't breathe". I was trying to explain to your boyfriend what a rear naked choke is since he had multiple posts where he displayed his ignorance about what a rear naked choke is intended to do. I understand that you and your boyfriend may experiment a lot with choking each other while naked but that isn't what an actual rear naked choke is. I'm not judging but only trying to educate.

I hope they are not carrying illegal cigarettes, the cops might actually have to arrest some criminals.......
well if he didn't come to work trying to kill someone what the f was he thinking applying that move to a man who's been taken down by 5 people. LOL I saw some Jiujitsu move on TV that was cool, let me try it out in real life derp, surely nothing would go wrong. Sometimes people pay for someone's stupidity, in this case the fat man paid with his life, and this dumbass should at least pay with his career
The fat man payed for his own stupidity, and yeah, I think the cop should be fired for taking the idiot down the way he did. It's against NYPD policy and he should have known better. They should have used pepper spray, billy clubs, and tasers to get the fat man to comply.
