I think I way over-hyped him. Reminds me of a certain southern governor.

Rumor has it that a faction of the Trump Camp is *already* looking to dump Vance.

Maybe he can see if Kamala has his resume on file. She needs a veep, and he has experience!

Trump Suddenly Thinks Picking J.D. Vance Was a Mistake

“Most striking thing I heard from Trump allies yesterday was the second-guessing of JD Vance—a selection, they acknowledged, that was [born] of cockiness, meant to run up margins with the base in a blowout
rather than persuade swing voters in a nail-biter,” Atlantic staff writer Tim Alberta, who had written the piece about the panicking Trump campaign, posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Trump decried Biden’s decision to drop out in a post on Truth Social, writing that his team would have to “start all over again” and asking to be reimbursed for the cost.
At the same time, Vance has set straight to work, calling for Biden to resign from the presidency.

Confirming what I was hearing yesterday, h/t @Os Trigonum

According to many, Trump picked JD Vance because he's only 5-7, which makes the 5-11 Trump seem taller (and Ron DeSantis, who checks out at 5-9 in his lifts)

I realized something about Vance. The biggest insult to his ego would be saying something like Sarah Palin seems like a PhD scholar next to him.

He really cares about being seen as a intellectual by the liberal elite. He wants to believe liberals are afraid of his debate bro skills.

Trump picked the person he is "comfortable" with.

Last time Trump picked someone that helped him with evangelicals, but was also someone he really disliked and he found odd.

Not this time - he can send out Vance to do his grunt work in the Rust Belt and in large swatches of the middle of southern part of the USA.

Outside of choosing a woman (that was never going to happen), I think Vance is actually a smart choice as it hardens Trump's standing in a lot of white middle and lower middle-class areas.

The risk is that the level of misogyny is going to be off the charts and if Vance and Trump doesn't tone it down, it could surprise them somewhat.

political scientists / strategists say that there's good reason to regret the choice, saying that Vance lacks crossover appeal.

Trump selected Vance when he thought he had the election "in the bag," but now the "mistake" of not balancing the ticket, either ideologically or by gender, is in full view.

Beyond his loyalty to Trump, Fahey said, "Vance adds nothing to the Republican ticket."

Vance does bring youth, money and a beard to the Trump ticket.

Obviously - Trumpism is a stain on American life and the sooner he's off the stage, the better - but the ritual public humiliation of his sycophantic underlings, most of whom (other than his children who had no choice in the matter) are getting exactly what they signed up for, and nothing less than they deserve - is one of the the things I'll - miss? - the most about it.

Did Trump's people even vet this guy?

    https://meidasnews.com/news/jd-vance-wrote-forward-to-project-2025-architects-new-book

Heritage Foundation President and Project 2025 architect Kevin Roberts has a new book coming out, and Donald Trump's running-mate JD Vance wrote a very enthusiastic Forward and review promoting his work, and even urged people to buy the book on his Twitter page before he was chosen as Trump's running mate.

Donald Trump and his campaign have been trying to distance himself from the policy platform laid out in the 90-page Project 2025 document ever since it became public with a serious of proposals that are deeply unpopular with a majority of Americans. Trump even went so far as to claim that he didn't even know the people who drafted it, even though many of them are key current and former advisors and Trump spoke at the group's annual meeting while praising Roberts.

The line item on the budget reads Hamberders & Diet Coke so Trump doesn't question the 1m+ a day they have to spend.
