I dont see anythign wrong with it. Hunting for food is the same as animals do to each other, it's natural and part of our survival instinct. killing animals for sport is just disgusting.

no, you're not wrong...and anyone who says you are, is a flat-out idiot as far as I'm concerned I hunt as well, deer and duck, because I love to eat venison and duck. I have never mounted anything on walls or anything like that
While creative uses of the RICO statute abound, the original intent of RICO was to prosecute mafia crime syndicate bosses. I'm pretty sure owning a dogfighting ring is less morally bad than running a crime family - which is why the penalties for it are drastically lower.
You aren't just out there to kill an animal: you are seeking nourishment. You're intent is not to torture, but to eat. To me, this is in many ways no different than any other predator. I personally wouldn't choose to hunt, but at least you are doing it for sustenance. So, as long as it's being done as humanely as possible, I wouldn't call what you do wrong. Now, some jerkwad who just goes out there and shoots animals just to mount heads on their wall...That person is a real Vickhead.
You know who is going to look smart when this is all said and done??? The Houston Texans. For getting Atlanta's thug insurance policy and having him lead us to the playoffs, while dog boy goes to jail. Dogfighting. Still not as bad as "let's smoke this fool" by Pacman jones, but still very bad. I also love dogs, so it makes me sick.
Civilly it has been, I know, I have done it. But if anybody thinks that running a dogfighting ring is morally/equitably worse than running hte Bonnano crime family, as the post I quoted said, their perspective is warped.
No, I'm not saying it's "morally or equitably" worse. But I'm not sure that's entirely relevant. If it meets the elements, it meets the elements. And, as I'm sure you know, the penalties are far steeper than what he's facing right now.
hold it there, my perspective may be warped but let me clarify. i refer to racketeering generally, as in running an illegal business. murder, child exploitation and other things that may go on in organized crime are certainly worse morally than dog fighting. selling drugs, on the other hand, bothers me far less than vick's sick racket.
well, running a big-time drug operation almost always involves murder and other physically violent acts
collecting gambling debts involves that sometimes, too. but to be clear, that is not a part of the indictment, so i'm not suggesting that's happened.
Sadly, there are some humans that do not have any regard for animals... How can you kill a poor dog unless they're attacking you???? I love my dog. I hope Vick gets the full punishment but I highly doubt he will!
IIRC the feds have about a 95% conviction rate. He has been indicted as part of a conspiracy so if found guilty of a small piece of the action he is guilty of all the action. In short, there is a better than good chance the Mr. Vick is cooked to well done and almost burnt.
State of Virginia will seek indictment against Vick too..by the end of the year..maybe as soon as September. http://www.ajc.com/falcons/content/sports/falcons/stories/2007/07/19/0720virginia.html
Dog fighting is horrible and should be a crime, but does the federal gov. need to be wasting this much time, money, and energy on such an obscure crime? This issue is minor problem at best with everything happening in the world right now. This really should be a state issue not a federal crime.
yes...yes they do. this is a high profile athlete, talking one of the top 5 faces in the NFL. They are more than likely going to set an example with Vick.
Absolutely the fed. gov should be involved. This is a multi-millionaire who used his position of fame and wealth to create, fund, and proliferate a multi-state gambling ring based on the abuse, torture, and ultimately murder of an untold number of animals, breaking who knows how many state and federal laws in the process. Vick deserves to have the book thrown at him at a FEDERAL level for this.
