At first you said "They should let him play" and then you said "They should do whatever they want and I will be OK with it." I see a change of heart, my friend. Good for you and for the tortured animals. NFL sacks Vick indefinitely after plea AP - 1 minute ago NEW YORK - The NFL has suspended Michael Vick indefinitely after the Atlanta Falcons quarterback acknowledged in court papers Friday that he did, indeed, bankroll gambling on dogfighting and helped kill some dogs not worthy of the pit.
Vick is done with the NFL. His only hope is for Mark Cuban's league to still be afloat when he gets out of the clink and one of those owners are willing to take a chance.
i don't think so. he'll do a year to 18 months. the NFL might suspend him for one more year after that. he'll be out either 2 or 3 seasons. then he'll be back in some way. who knows, maybe not even as a QB. i seriously doubt he'll ever play for atlanta again, though.
So he said he never received profits from the gambling, but he did bankroll it..............am I the only one that this doesn't make sense to?
I predict any team that picks him up will have some of their own fans booing the team not to mention the response when he goes on the road. I'd feel sorry for his teammates because it'll be tough.
Have you heard Roger Cossack talking about this? He says it's just plain wrong to say that Vick didn't gamble on dogfighting given the plea. He says, "this isn't like horseracing where you enter a horse...and if you win, you get paid...but if you don't win, you don't have to pay anything." He says you have to pay a purse upfront to put a dog up. And that's what Bad Newz Kennels did with Vick's funding. He says, "It doesn't matter that he didn't place side-bets. it doesn't matter that if he won money he gave it to the other guys. It's still gambling."
if mike vick is not done with the nfl...it would be the most ridiculous thing ever. i see a lifetime ban coming his way.
i don't. maybe i'll change my mind later. the state of virginia is still talking about bringing charges sometime in september. maybe that will change my line of thinking. but as it is...i think he'll be back in 2009.
This is the key to me. If he was an awesome QB, yeah, someone would give him a chance. But he's struggled to be a QB in the NFL. He's had a lot of ups and downs, and many Atlanta fans were wanting Matt Schaub. If he's an average NFL QB who's been out of the league 2 or 3 years, why take the risk and all the baggage that will come with him if you're the GM of some team? He's not going to magically have improved as a passer with several years away from the game.
So you are saying that he will get a 1 year suspension from the NFL? I think he gets at least 2 and possibly lifetime ban.
I was so counting on you to come in and make my point for me being so lawyerly and all. But yeah, you set up the whole thing and bankroll the action, but you weren't gambling? If you weren't, what is the whole point to the operation? As stoopid as this sounds (which I am good at btw), I would have felt better knowing Vick profited off the whole thing (i.e. he had a purpose) instead of knowing he just did it all for kicks (which is the impression that the wording of the plea agreement gives me).
And that impression is the one the media gave you today. But what Cossack is saying is that he absolutely admits to gambling in this plea. Basically that the media (and ESPN in particular) has framed this wrong all day. He actually got into it a bit with one of the ESPN News hosts on that topic. To enter a dog in a fight, you pay a purse. You plunk down money. Bad Newz Kennels, with Vick's funding, did just that. If your dog wins, you win the cash. If your dog loses, you lose the cash you put up. Gambling. It makes no difference what you do with the cash after you've won it.
He will be a like Antoine Randle El if he comes back a Utility player. . .and will have to play his way to QB Rocket River then again . . .if some team is 1-15 the yr before and Messed off the #1 Pick . . . .. . or no good QBs in the draft . .. . maybe QB
Nike Sacks Vick http://www.cnbc.com/id/20430985 On the day that Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick pled guilty to charges related to dogfighting, announced on Friday night that it has ended its relationship with its former endorser. "Nike has terminated our contract with Michael Vick following today's release of details of his plea," Nike said, in a statement. "As we have said in previous statements, we consider any cruelty to animals inhumane, abhorrent and unacceptable." Nike is the last company to have a relationship with Vick. Air Tran announced it would not re-sign the star, as did Rawlings. The company suspended the release of Vick's new signature shoe, which was due to hit stores this week, and then eventually suspended his contract. Sources tell CNBC that Nike will owe no money to Vick for terminating him as his contract specified that the company had that right if he were ever indicted. In a poll on CNBC.com, readers voted that Nike should terminate Vick.
