While they weren't great to begin with, our chances of landing Swift go down somewhat with this trade because only $2-3 million of our TE is left for a multi-player S&T deal with Memphis (where we take on one of Memphis' smaller contracts with our TE.) Good luck getting Swift to settle for the MLE. It could happen, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm glad the PG position is settled for awhile. I'm liking the look of our backcourt.

I have to agree... this is a great move for the Rockets. If it is exactly as Stein reports it, then it's a steal similar to Lue for Barry. Gaines flat out isn't seeing any time with us, and if I'm not mistaken, he has another year on his deal. They got him for virtually nothing ... and still have their #1 pick.

    AWESOME!

Guys, all along I have been saying that Mike James is the guy we should be going after. We tried to get him in December using Nachbar and the Bucks declined. The fact we could get him now for a non-factor in Gaines and 2 2nd round picks, without having to give up a 1st rounder is awesome!

Sura/James is a SOLID PG rotation. When Sura gets back our bench just got a lot better!

James can stick the outside shot and is a VERY underrated defender. I think this move will help the team the same way the Wesley deal did.

James isnt on a bad contract either. He is making 3M for the next couple of years. That is pretty good for a backup PG.

We got a PG to help us save the season AND still have our 1st round picks! Awesome! What a GREAT move by CD! Major Props!

It's hard to believe we've gone through 6 point guards already this year (8 if you include James and Maloney)

    Ward/Lue/Sura/Barrett/Knight/Strickland/James/Maloney :p

In addition, if the age limit actually gets imposed, we won't miss those second-rounders if they're 2006 and 2007. Those two drafts will suck.

how do you figger we used part of our TE?

I havent seen what the numbers are on the contracts....and form what I remember, Gaines doesnt seem to make enough to cover James's contract...but it was my understanding that you couldnt combine the TE with a player in a deal...

Great job by CD clearing the junk off our roster and filling our needs.Time to unload MoTay in a deal for a swingman and/or a 4 and CD takes home GM of the year.

Could we have used part of the TE?

I went over to realgm but they already have the players switched...

edit: The salary ratios don't seem to match on those 2.

I would doubt it since you can't trade it packaged with a player. The reprt said a package including Gaines, so maybe there is more to the trade that hasn't been revealed yet.

I guess we'll know for sure whenever the Rox come out publicly and announce it instead of an "insider" journalist breaking the news.

Are the Bucks under the Cap?!? Is that why the salaries don't have to match?

Could we trade part of the TE for Mike alone and then trade Gaines and the picks for part of the TE that the Bucks just got from us?

Great move, but we still got Mo Taylor's fat ass taking up room on the bench. Let's hope CD did not go to lunch and is still working the phones.

Great move. Now we just need to waive Strickland and trade MoT for Marshall. ;)

hmm....Im not sure on that...that would appear to circumventing the CBA which is against the rules..

we really need NIKE, Gater or aelliott to speak up about this....those guys have researched the CBA extensively...

This is great! I was hoping earlier this offseason that the Rockets would somehow get Antonio Daniels in a trade with Seattle. He would have been a perfect fit for the Rockets system. IMO, Mike James is a Antonio Daniels clone; nothing flashy, fundamentally sound player who knows his role on the team, good 3 point shooter, and has the body and work ethic to play good defense. Best of all, he is cost effective. Perhaps this is the deal that JVG was talking about ealier today. They upgraded the team without taking a financial hit that would have binded the Rockets when the time came to offer Yao a new contract.

In other good news....I got a brand spanking new Tracy Mcgrady Rockets jersey as a gift from my gf today. It's good to have a gf who appreciates the Rox. Also, thank you Rockets, for abondoning those old pajamas from the late 90's, so that I can actually enjoy my jersey. :D

I think the real shocker here is not that we reeled in Mike James, a player tailor-made for JVG's system with youth to boot, but the fact that we were able to get something of value for Reece Gaines, undoubtedly one of the 5 worst players in the NBA.

I forgot Gaines was in the trade. I'm confused now as to whether we used part of our TE. There's about a $1.6 million difference in salary that I don't know how we got around.

From all that I've read and seen of James, the scoop is this:

Excellent three point shooter. He'll probably do very well here with the wide open looks he stands to get that he didn't get in Milwauke.

He is a big 6'2", not slight of build. Very good quickness and could be a solid defender. Can get to the hole and knows how to run the break.

An average passer, but fairly intellegent on the floor.

This is not a guy who will score in bunches or run up triple doubles, but he is a solid guy with a great shooting touch from long range. Great addition!!!
