This is a big time deal. James gives us a three point threat at yet another position that should help make up for the rebounding problem we still have. Think about it. We've surrounded Yao and TMAC with great shooters now. When Sura comes back, there is no reason he won't get better rest now, and this will allow us to change things up better as Sura was not a legitimate three point and bringing James in for Sura allows us to bring in another one we need it. James will also give Sura some time to heal that Rod Strickland and Andre Barrett would not. I very much like this trade, now if we could only get rid of MoT for a burrito or Derek Anderson it would be a perfect trading day. Come on Portland, Milwaukee do the Van Horn/Shareef thing...
True - but that's hindsight. But anyone, but the Rockets, would have picked Mike James over CWard given the options.
Someone clarify James' contract situation. Patricia's site says: Mike James ............ 8/5/04 3 $10.23 million p-opt '06 I can't decipher that. I seem to recall that James is in the first year of a 3 year deal. What's confusing is the P-opt for '06. Does that mean that he's locked up for next season and has the player option for the 06-07 year?
I wonder of something else is in the works. JVG (on 610 this morning) said they were looking at moves with their financial future in mind. I think this trade makes them a tad worse off financially.
His name's Mike James b****. gonna help this team out a TON. what happens when sura comes back? backup? 3 way split in core minutes between james/wesley/sura?
Oh and another by-product of this trade is that we can run the "I'm Mike James, b****." joke into the ground. Good Times. Edit: See. 3814 is at it already.
James does seem kind of streaky, and not afraid to launch from the perimeter. Attempted 13 3-pters in 27 minutes a couple weeks ago in n game against Boston But he did make 8 of them.
This is awesome. How can you not be excited. Our starting PG just got 8 year younger and 8 bazillion times better. Mike James is a role player that knows his role...he should be perfect. Plus, when Sura does come back, this really does give us the added flexibility to let Sura run a little at the 2 guard if necessary. This move is awesome. As an aside, it looks like the Cavs gave up a future first for Jiri Welsch. Don't get me wrong, Welsch has upside, is younger and is taller, but in slightly fewer minutes, Welsch's stats are weaker across the board. Great work CD. Sign Stromile Swift in the offseason and this team is LEGIT!
Is he a younger version of Jon Barry? Good 3's shooter, poor rebounder, I hope he could play defense.
Between James, Wesley and Barry you some very good catch and shoot players in the backcourt and we get much more athletic with James especially on the rocket defensive rotations. This guy can really play some serious defense.
Sura/James Wesley/Barry/Anderson* McGrady/Anderson*/Bowen Howard/Padget/Weatherspoon Yao/Mutumbo IR: Strickland/Barrett *= pending shipping Mo to the Blazers for DA. Me likes!
Couldn't be happier. Never thought it was possible without giving away something valuable. With James and Sura, we are set at the pg for the next year or two.
