I like this trade also. It was apparent we needed another PG while Sura is out, and it will lighten the load on his injured body after he is back. It also gives the Rockets more time to bring Bob along. James is on my fantasy team, so I got to add a Rocket without giving anyone up, yay.:)

    I LOVE this trade!

Kudos to CD ... the best possible use of the TE and second round picks. We finally got something good out of the Rice trade, and didn't overspend by giving up our first round pick, as we would have had to if we got someone like Payton. Maybe we could have gotten Jalen Rose for MoT, but I don't think we could have gotten any other starting PG without losing first rounders, and Rose would not have been a good fit, both character-wise and what we really needed.

This will add depth and stability to the PG position along with Sura and possibly Norris. He's the protypical JVG PG, and knows his role, and has great character. We just got a LOT better and deeper.

Gaines is from Milwaukee, and is a hometown favorite, so that's why he was included, and why we didn't have to give up a first round pick. That was like trading Gaines for a future first round pick, which any of us would have done.

    I'm THRILLED!

while you never know how things will work out, this seems like a perfect trade.

we needed a guy who could fill in as the starter while sura is out. james is just good enough to be a stopgap (unlike a strickland or barrett).

we needed someone who was still enough of a role player that they would fall right back into the backup role once sura gets back. james can definitely do that as he's not getting big minutes as it is.

we needed some athleticism. got it.

plus the guy hits the 3's quite well and doesn't have a very bad contract (that he's locked into for 2 more years).

plus we didn't give up a 1st round pick.

there aren't many guys who would fit our needs of a stopgap starter but still a roleplayer much better than james and we basically gave up nothing. well, we lost some money off our TE but this is the time to use it if there is one.

hell, for the first time in about 5 years, we may actually have a legitimate backup point guard instead of the moochie/mark jackson/strickland/ward crap we've been running out there.

What an unbelievable trade. I'm starting to get concerned that if James is too good, JVG is going to have a tough time choosing who's going to start when Bobby returns!!! He's a natural 1 by all indications so he might actually be a better fit. Now that's a great problem.

    Hey guys -

Could Mike James be considered a pure point guard?

Exactly...plus, depending on matchups, I could see Sura and James on the floor together, Sura for his rebounding, playmaking, and penetration, and James for his outside shooting and perimeter D (some people are saying he's a decent defender, I guess we'll see). So it looks like we're set at the guard positions, with plenty of depth once Sura returns.

I am so happy with this trade. Mike James is such a solid point guard, the guy who said he didn't know who Mike James was before today needs to leave this board and quit wathing the NBA. James was solid in Boston, good in Detroit, and has been doing well off the bench this year in Milwaukee. He handles the ball well, makes good decisions, shoots the 3 well, and plays very good defense.

I joined this board today because of this trade, i've been wanting to come over here and chat with you guys, but was never willing to dish out the $10 to get an account. Cool board with some good discussions. I'm glad to be here.

yeah Sura could play at the 2.

    Really nice.

The thing I like is his quickness and defense..his shooting is good too. So basically..he is a solid point guard that will do well here. Great trade

Its about time we FINALLY have a decent backup PG in here. Hopefully with Sura and James we are set at that position for the next 2 yrs. Now if we could just get a good PF and a backup SF then we would be contending for the title (actually i feel we are contending right now if we can stay healthy).

I'm a big rockets fan. I'm also a fan of true point guards. I never liked Francis at the point, I think he'd make a hell of a 2 guard, but he isn't a true point guard and that always frusturated me.

I got season tickets this year and am a big rockets fan, especially once we got Tmac, I also just love the NBA in general. I'm not only a Rockets fan, but am a fan of the NBA.

I thought it was a great move for the Rockets to acquired James from Bucks for Gaines and draft picks. Pretty good move CD!
