Stroker, how many threads are you gonna start with MJ? They merged your last thread.

MJ wants to shoot and score. Let him do it while TMAC or Yao is on the bench.

Its funny that people actually take the "he's only a sparkplug off of the bench" approach seriously. Its as if they fail, whether it be by sheer ignorance or blatent stupidity, to understand that a dynamic player like Mike James could actually be used otherwise.

He's quicker, a far better shooter and more physically gifted than Rafer. That kind of mix in a Princeton offense could be absolutely DEADLY!

But hey, he's too much of a ball hog....keep 'em off the floor!!!!

people are killing our point guard situation but with james I don't think its so bad. starting or not. the key is james needs to finish games, rafer just doesn't hit shots late too often.

uhh? what game were you watching? Mike James was looking to open the floor so he could try and beat his defender, when that option was gone, then he finally passed. There is a reason he only had two assist

Rafer is a good defender and ball-handler, but he is truly awful as a shooter. Mike James is the better player.

That being said, I think we're in a situation where it doesn't really matter who starts. Rafer is good enough to warrant some playing time, but James should probably be closing out games. I'd like to see a minutes distribution of something like 20 min James, 20 min Rafer, 10 min Steve (assuming he can get into shape and learn the system).

No, start Rafer. I'm not ready to condemn him because he had a poor showing in his first game, and besides, we really need Mike James' offense off the bench. Putting him in the starting lineup decreases the effectiveness of our bench.

I hope brooke can turn into a bibby who can score but will dish first. Or some how merge Rafer and James into one player. :p

    R. Alston

    29 min
    1-6 fg
    1-5 3pt
    2-2 FT
    7 rebounds
    8 assists
    1 steal
    4 turnover... 2-1 assist/turnover ratio
    5 points

    M. James
    26 min
    5-10
    3-5
    0-4 FT
    2 rebounds
    2 assists
    3 steals
3 turnover (1 turnover less than Alston but assist/turn over ratio sucks)
    13 points

I rather have James come off the bench. When you have Yao and TMAC in the game, you don't need a PG to waive off the stars and take any shot he wants. You want him to do that when TMAC or YAO goes to the bench.

    Alston > James - PG
James > Alston - scoring (therefore use him and Bonzi as 6th man off the bench)

Disagree. Not because I think Rafer is a better player. I just want Mike James coming off the bench as a sparkplug who can create for themselves while Yao and/or Tracy are out of the game.

I agree, this is the way it should be. James should come in and shoot all he want when Tmac and Yao are resting.

exactly what i was about to say. i remember that play. mj waved off tmac so he could hit yao with an entry pass into the post. what's wrong with that?

likely that people are talking about two different possessions here. i wouldn't doubt that on a different possesion he waved off t-mac so he could try to score himself lol.

.....which is exactly what we need coming off the bench

Defense is more of a Rafer strength, and he did connect on what I feel was the only good shot he had all game. IMO Rafer hits a high percentage of shots that come within the flow.

We need points off the bench. That's where James excels at. T-Mac goes out, Mike James comes in and gives us enough points that we don't miss a beat. What if T-Mac came out and Rafer came in. Rafer is not gonna cover for T-Mac's point production.

If Stevie gets in shape and ready to run this system, then he'll more than likely bump to starting PG(and occasional spot min at SG), keep James(the better shooter) coming off the bench for 23-26min and give Rafer spot minutes at PG.

That is possible, I just remember that Yao was on the other side of the box and Chuck was on the high post with T-Mac on the wing. Mike waved off T-Mac then went to the middle, when that wasn't open, he passed it off.

Mike James is best served coming off the bench, when either Tmac or Alston go cold or go to the bench. Having Mike James play the facilitator of the offense, when Yao and Tmac are in is just a waste of his scoring ability, and besides Alston is a better distributor of the ball.

I bet if it was Mike James on that 3-1 with Kobe (where TMAC had the awesome dunk)... I bet if it was James he'd probably take the layup and get blocked.

Alston was in front of Bryant but found a trailing TMAC for the dunk.

I kind of liked the Rafer-James backcourt we had out there for abit.

Rafer can push the ball up, and James could spot up and drain the 3.
