Not only do you have to pay VSpan more to come over, you have to give him enough of a contract to buy out what he owes Panathanaikos for the balance of his contract. If he has 2 more years with them, that's $3M right there.
I have reservations about V Span. In a Van Gundy interview in late may or early June - he spoke like Span's game is not ready forthe NBA
But doesn't he have a buyout clause for like Eur 400-500K which was just over the US 400,000 NBA max buyout for foreign contracts. This is how I remember the contract. If true we could pay 400K for the buyout and he would kick in the balance and we could sign him for 1.5M-2.0M at most 2.5M for 3 years. I don't know if you can split the MLE unevenly. Then we would have at least 1/2 the MLE for another guy - maybe Reggie Evans.
All I'm telling you is what was reported many weeks back by Feigen. When the volume dies and I can search, I'll post the thread. It's been discussed here more often than I can count. It will take nearly the full MLE to get him here. And even if he were here, do you honestly think VG is going to play him? No way IMHO. EDIT: And you are confusing what is the max alllowable under the CBA by a team with what it actually costs to buyout a player.
I thought Spanoulis had a 3 year $1.2 million contract. I also thought he had ONLY a $400,000 buyout, which apparently could be covered by Rockets in addition to his contract. I also thought that he was asking for half the MLE ($2.6 million) for 3 years, which would be 3 years $7.8 million. I could be wrong, but that is pretty much exactly what I remember BOTH Lindsey and CD saying.
Yeah, I heard that same interview. The 610 guys were talking about him last week and their consensus was that he'll never wear a Rockets uni. From everything I've read and heard, he's just not NBA ready due to his defensive shortcomings. BTW, the Rockets have called a 3:00 PM press conference tomorrow to introduce the newest Rocket.
CD and Lindsey BOTH said it would be HALF the MLE (estimated at $2.6 million) averaged over 3 years, which would be $7.8 million roughly. No one ever said anything about nearly the full MLE on Spanoulis.
I thought VSpan had a buy out clause that would allow him to come over much cheaper. I thought I read it somewhere that he specifically had it put in in just in case.
So VSpan is coming thats great news perfect fit for the rockets you guys will love him forget about james....
http://www.hoopshype.com/interviews/spanoulis_sierra.htm According to V-Span he has a $400,000.00 buy out clause in case the Rockets come calling.
Yes that matches exactly what CD and Lindsey said. They also said he wants half the MLE average for 3 years, which would be around $7.8 million for 3 years estimated at this point. They also said he was only on a 3 year $1.2 million contract and would definitely sign with Houston if given the offer.
When did you here CD and Lindsey say this? I am asking because if we are going to sign him we need to do it now and get his ass over here.
If the guy is winning championchips in Europe, he is worth the gamble on. The more guys we stack on our roster, the less playing time Ryan Bowen will get.
as many of us have already said in the past weeks/months, Greece is hosting that EuroLeague Cup or whatever it's called, and V-Span wants a chance to win it, especially since it's in his home country. we have very little chance to get him to come over until after this year.
