The games would have maybe been closer but our record would have been about the same, *maybe* challenging for the 8th seed. Mike James is a gunner, not a difference maker. Just because the guy scores alot of points doesn't mean he can save our season because he is here.

I'm not saying Rafer is better, I have reservations about him these days, and maybe trading MJ was a mistake, who knows. But I highly doubt that he can be a difference between lottery and playoff team, he's just a gunner.

Agreed. Mike James is a super bench spark plug for a very good/great team. A team that has James in a greater role is doomed to mediocrity.

James had 37 pts, 8 rebs, 5 assists, and 7 three pointers made tonight.

Me too. I lost ALL of my respect for Mike James. I actually felt hatred for him like I do Dirk. I was hoping Juwon would have kicked his ass. But yeah.... Me no like James.

it would take the whole rockets team about a month to get 7 3 pointers.

As much as I have began to hate MJ this year, I thought we should have kept him. His shooting and energy is exactly what we needed this year. I like Rafer, but his shooting is very inconsitent and let's face it, shooting (and injuries) have been our downfall the entire season.

We had to trade him, invest in the future with which is Alston, who may become our starting PG or back-up. It's better for:

+To have a player know the system after playing it for a year than,

-Losing Mike James and having to find another PG that has to learn the system all over again.

And no, Mike James wouldn't have stayed for the MLE.

    BS.

James' wife is from Houston. James is on record with the media he wants to stay in FREAKIN' TORONTO. Read Rivaldo's summary of the interview. If it was only about the money, the trade wouldn't have hurt so deeply.

Toronto (just like the Rockets would) have had his Bird Rights. He'll sign a multi-year deal starting at ~$7m. Chump change.

    BS.

Umm... James doesn't have bird rights, he was signed 7/25/03. He said HIMSELF on Houston Radio that he would be going for the money after the season ended before he was traded.

Nope, he wouldn't take the MLE.

    TRY AGAIN.

Mediocrity would be a step up from where we were without him.

We had a CRYING need for a second scorer this year when Yao or Tracy has been out - which has been the vast majority of the time.

Had we had james, we'd have that scorer, and we'd have our best perimeter defender too.

Would we have been able to keep him? Who knows - considering that we gave up REECE GAINES to get him, I consider 1.5 years of James to be more than equitable compensation.

Trading James was a mistake, plain and simple - he's strong in the areas that we are weak in - which would have helped us win games. Like I said, it's not as if Rafer Alston was a once in a lifetime opportunity. He would have been available this season, or a reasonable substitute for him would have been - this is of course assuming that he's worth getting anyway, about which I have serious doubts.

Is having Mike James for 1 more year worth getting a low pick and having no PG the next year? No. With the team we have we would have not gone anywhere, and the high pick we are getting this year will surely help. This 05-06 have highlighted our weaknesses. Mike James would've been gone, period.

Yes, it would have been worth it.

Lottery seasons suck big fat dong, period.

It is offensive to me that my beloved Rockets have had to suffer through so many of them since the end of the glory days, while the b****ass, small town loser spurs and formerly sad-sack mavericks just win and win and win.

    Very offensive.

MJames could have been our MADMAX

We should have replace Wesley with MJames at SG!

    We could use his shoooting/slashing

    Mike James >>> Rafer Alston

    Alston is a pu$$y.

That's just what this Rockets team needed. One more pu$$y to team up with the queen of pu$$ies in Juwan Howard....

    ...at the starting lineup.

    BRILLIANT!

mike wanted to stay so bad...it hurts to read this:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailydime?page=dailydime-060322

Five questions with Raptors guard Mike James:

Q: You don't hit the open market for almost four months, but you're already generating some free-agent buzz. After six teams in five seasons, how pleasing is that?

A: You try not to think about it, because I know if I don't play well, there won't be any noise. But there's probably been more talk about me as a Raptor than anywhere I've been, even though we're out of the [playoff] loop. I thought I would be doing this for Houston. But Toronto has given me an opportunity to showcase what type of player I am and what type of person I am.

Q: You didn't hide your disappointment when the Rockets traded you to the Raptors on the first day of training camp. Did you have a negative perception of Toronto?

A: Definitely. But I didn't know. I was going off what other people said. People would look at Toronto and talk about taxes or talk about having to carry around your passport, these types of things. But I tried to keep an open mind [after the trade] and once I got around the city a little bit, I realized it's not like people say. And the best thing about it was the opportunity that I got from the coaching staff. That made it much easier.

Q: It's been a rough season for the Raptors, obviously, but it's also your breakout season. So is re-signing in Toronto your first choice now?

A: They've given me my opportunity, so I would be wrong not to talk to them first. I would be wrong to just turn my back on them, and I'm not going to do that. My thing is, "Can I make this place a home?" Am I going to be recognized and rewarded [financially] for what I'm doing now? I'm tired of having past held against me. I'm tired of hearing about how I [went] undrafted. That was a long time ago. I'm not a journeyman anymore.

Q: Have you gotten over the Houston trade?

A: It hurt. It definitely hurt, because I felt like Houston was a place I could spend my whole career. I felt like Houston was a place I could build my foundation. My wife is from Houston. I'm building a house in Houston. And Houston is still going to be my home in the off-season. So [getting traded] was the biggest slap in the face to me.

Q: What's your gut feel: Will Toronto be able to keep Chris Bosh?

A: I think so, yes. Chris wants me to stay and I want him to stay. We've got something good going. He's going to have to evaluate what's best for him and his family, but they love Chris Bosh in Toronto.

I havent saw anybody work as hard as him everyday at the fonde gym getting thereself ready for one season.I thought he would have a breakout year playing as a rocket, so when I heard the trade I was like... OH NO!

what makes you think he'd produce 19 and 7 here? He'd either have done that at tracy and yao's expense, or he'd be sitting at 12 ppg. He dominates the offense along with Bosh in Toronto. Here he'd hafta defer scoring and even teh ball control (which he never relinquishes up there).
