Because I think he really feels that way. A big part of his signing with Minni IMO was becuase of his anger towards the Rockets.

-he really believed that Houston would offer him the full MLE at 5 years

-in his mind the taking the 5 year full MLE was meeting the Rockets half way since he thinks that is still being underpaid.

-when Houston did not offer the MLE at 5 years it pissed him off. Thus the change in attitude we saw before his Las Vegas trip as compared to after his Vegas trip.

-When he relized that no one was going to offer the full MLE at 5 years I think that is when he became pissed and asked for the trade kicker.

-His not selecting Houston was more a matter of him being pissed off than playing for the team he really wanted to play for.

-he really did not want to play in Minni in the 1st place and feels that he just settled by taking their deal.

    just my oppinions.

Probably not far from the truth. The only person who thinks Mike James is worth more than what he's getting paid is Mike James. I'm still tripping over Will's "Queen James" thread ... how perfect.

The really ironic thing is that if he opts out after 3 years then he essentially has a 3 year contract which is what Houston and Dallas were offering anyway.

lol. yeah I never liked the idea of James coming on board. He wants to be the man too much, he is shoot first and that got on my nerves when he was here.

i think that is pretty spot on, but i think he chose minny because he knows they don't have the players that will take HIS shots so HE can opt out in 3 years and make more money. like i said in the thread on CD's 610 interview...MJ is delusional since he thinks he is so good that he can score a huge deal when he is 34. what a douche bag.

That's the chance you take with this guy... he might be out there on his own personal agenda to prove how underpaid he is rather than helping with the team's goal.

If the team's personnell dictates they need MJ to come off the bench to help with 2nd unit scoring rather than start, how will he react?

If TMac and Yao return from their injury in prime form-- or maybe better than ever, will Mike James be happy playing within the flow of the offense and mostly getting 15 spot-up shooting points a game rather than dominating the ball and average 20 like he did in Toronto?

In Minny, that's less of a risk since Garnett plays like a secondary scorer quite a bit so Mike can jack as much as he wants without hurting the team. I think this is probably another thing that makes Minny's offer more attractive than either Houston's or Dallas'.

I still think the Rockets should have just given him his trade kicker and take the chance, but their decision is somewhat understandale, as is Mike's.

When Mike James played for the Rockets, we had those rumors about Tmac not getting along with him during the playoffs b/c he took too many shots. Then when he was with the Raptors, I remember reading an article during this offseason where Bosh made a comment about how they don't need a shoot first point guard making it sound like he had some rift with James in that aspect.

I'm sure that by year 3 even if James doesn't want to opt out, he will somehow be forced out by Minn since Garnett will probably have some problems with him by then. I mean honestly, although I've never doubted his skills on the court, the guy has been traded like 50 times during the past 2-3 years. There has to definitely be something going on with his character.

A couple of quotes from that radio interview:

"I'm ready to start figuring out the city of Minnesota."

"Kevin Garnett said I just don't want you. I need you."

"Houston said no to my player option and to the trade kicker. Dallas said no to my guaranteed fourth year."

"it was quality and quantity. I needed both."

"Even though I'm grateful for this contract...I still believe I'm being underpaid in this game. I believe at the age of 34...I'm gonna opt out of my deal because I'm going to be even better at that age."

I really don't see a problem with the statement, I appreciate his honesty instead of the old boring cliches. he didn't say he wasn't going to play hard, he didn't say he didn't want to be theer, he said he's gonna opt out, which he has an option to, in three years. so what's the big deal, its not like he said he wasn't going to show up to training camp.

the guy is gonna play through his contract. mike james hasn't been shown any "loyalty" why should he be bending over backwards. the dude doesn't have much basketball life left, he needs to make as much money as he can because he staring down the rest of his life. if you begrudge him for that you have the problem.

One of our favorite guys, Sam Cassell said that for years in Milwaukee and Minnesota. I don't know why everyone always takes management's viewpoint.

It is still too bad we did not get Mike James. Mike James has been underpaid his whole career. He knows it and it is too bad the Rockets did not realize it. Of course he is not a Lebron or at this point an All Star--just the best we could do at the time.
