I would prefer Damon Jones, but Mike James would be a nice fall-back option if his contract demands were right. But pardon me if I don't get too excited over a backup type pg to throw into competition with Lue.
10 mil/3 years would outbid Mia and LA and would be a very reasonable contract for the Rockets. I think I'd prefer DJ, but his cost may be significantly higher. I'd rather get James than Ward or most other realistic options.
Their numbers are actually pretty similar. Main differences (03-04 season) are that Jones has the eye-popping assist-turnover ratio, but James' 3P% is slightly better (.377 vs. .359). Of course James has the advantage of having a ring. Bottom line, I'd be happy with either as our starter, so whichever comes cheapest (probably James) is the right choice.
Competition itself makes both players better...and remember, in this scenario, Lue is quite possibly gone after the season anyways.
I call all other Rox fans to pls pray for our starting PG. Everyday, lots of speculations are made. I'm hoping that it would come down to either James, Jones or McInnis (trade). May our future starter may be a good fit and at the same tine his contract be reasonable...
Personally i cant see why the Rox arent Interested in Travis best?. Sure he was'nt productive in Dallas, but that was Because he was stock behind Nash. he was pretty good player for the Pacers and the Heat.
$3 million a year for 3 years doesn't seem to be in alignment with the market for a starting PG for a playoff contender IMO. I'd think MJ's agent would want 4 years with a min of $4.5 million per for a starting PG and that's really not a huge figure when put in the context of the established market this summer. What makes anyone think that James' agent is not using the market as a barometer?. $ 3million per seems like a lowball offer for a starting PG on a playoff team.....CD may not want to pay market value but since when hasn't the market dictated a player's worth in the eyes of his agent? If the Rocks only pay him $3 million for 3 years, I would think there would have to be an opt out (players option) after the second year in case he blows up and exceeds the value of the deal radically. But that's just me....
James was 2nd string, borderline 3rd string (behind Hunter), in the playoffs. Alston's (mostly back-up/part time starter) deal is like 6 for 25 (excluding incentives). Arroyo (starter) was 4/16. Anthony Johnson (back-up) was 3/11 I believe. He is closer to these guys pedigree than that off Fisher/Barry/Hud (full MLEs) or the upside of Daniels/Crawford 3 year /11 mil should do it, 4 year 16 mil (like Arroyo's defintely would). I'd be plenty happy to get MJ for just over 1/2 the MLE for 3 years (11 mil). I would probably be willing to add another year (4/15 mil) to DJ because he is 1 year younger and had a strong playoff series against Detriot along with his very efficient year running the point.

If Mike James does become a Rocket this bbs is going to lit up with Rick James jokes. More so than now. Oh I can see it now " Mike James just signed with the (insert team name). Who? Mike James !@#$%!"
that's because Hunter was a die hard Pitson who played in Brown's system all season (instead of coming in a the trade deadline) so he was more confortable (and LB was comfortable with him as the backup) Mike James was a starter in Boston and did well there
James has very little court vision. He's a solid defender, a streaky jumpshooter, and decent at driving the lane. He's not that good, but he's not awful. Boston players were ecstatic when Chucky Atkins replaced him and commented how it was great to have a guy that could run a team now, and Chucky isn't exactly a pure point guard. James could work on the Rockets because all he has to do is throw it to Ming and get out of the way, or push it on the break.
NBA.com has it that Keyon Dooling is close to a deal with the Heat, which helps our case if we're sincerely interested in James...
