    wow, really??

my thought after watching this was that i was encouraged by the tone...the respect that both men afforded one another while disagreeing with each other. i was actually really encouraged by that.

Yes, which should be available for everyone who wants to make the decision to get "uinioned". The argument regarding procreation is stupid - there is a separate tax deduction for that.

What form of discrimination hasn't eroded over time?

based on forwards i receive from right-wing family members and friends who are staunchly anti-gay marriage would argue that we discriminate against those who want to marry multiple people or animals.

you have to look beyond the last 100 years which is just a blink of the eye in human history.

Agreed, way different than a Bill O'reiley interview.

Stewart wasn't bad really, but he played to the audience and had one liners that caused his audience to cheer in basically opposition to Huckabee. I found the audience more disrespectful than Stewart, although he knew what he was doing.

The Daily Show audience is not exactly a big secret in their socially liberal bias.. so Huck knew that coming in.. and its not his first time on the show... rarely do they "boo" someone, rather than just cheer for what they approve of.. which is slightly less combative imo.

No arguments there. Huckabee knew what he was getting into, and he came across really well despite how much I may disagree with his actual positions. I just don't like my serious interviews with an audience...

I thought Stewart's question to Huck about when he chose to be heterosexual was completely legitimate, one-liner or not. It's pretty damning to the homosexuality-as-choice viewpoint, which is a transparent pretext for denying equal rights.

Gay rights are civil rights. Opponents of civil rights, like Huckabee, should be called out for what they really are: bigots.

As usual, I agree with you, Max. Neither of them seemed condescending, they both had their opportunities to point out their perception of the other position as well as their own position.

The major difference is that there isn't a genetic predisposition to polygamy or bestiality. There is a clear genetic link to homosexuality.

oh i know that. i'm was just pointing out that those opposed to gay marriage like to bring up letting people marry multiple partners or animals when discussing gay marriage.

i fully support gay marriage and it bothers me that obama does not.

Little late to the discussion, but here's my two cents:

Huck came off well, but I think pure simple honesty is the best way to explain the conservative Christian view on homosexuality. The Bible says that homosexual sex is a sin. It is that simple. That is why we are against the state sanctioning that type of relationship. To me, Huck sounded like he was trying to hide behind semantics with his arguement about procreation and 5,000 year old definitions.

BTW, this is in no way a judgement against homosexuals. I don't hate alcoholics. I don't hate gluttons (that would make me a self-hater). It is just a recognition of what is stated in the Bible.

Serious question... If conservative Christians hate same sex marriage because of what it says in the bible, why does that mean they have to make legal legislation and force that belief on others?

I think because everyone votes based on thier opinion. If I am given an opportunity to vote my values in the community, I'm going to do so.

It is historical fact that this country was formed on Judeo-Christian values, heavy on the Christian. My opinion is that our country is better served by preserving that culture.

What is being forced? Marriage has always been a legal union between a man and woman, so there is no legislation trying to force a belief on anyone. It doesn't matter what belief you are fighting for, you are changing the definition of a word. If you are going to hide behind "legal rights" issues, you have to including everything, homo, hetro, polygamy and anyone else that wants marry whatever they want.
