I think part of that was the "trying too hard" mentality. He was trying to keep his position on the team so he was trying to do things outside of his game. Like I said, I think it depends on if we do a two for one trade (or more than one two for one trade) where it frees up space on the roster. Given more confidence I think he will show a little more than just hustle and hops.
he needs a jumper and also needs to learn to put the ball on the floor. If he adds that to his game he will become a descent role player. I thought his game was already built around those things but i guess not?
I like Harris alot, that being said I dunno if he really has a shot at making the team next year. We have alot of undersized PFs who don't really play much SF and that pretty well describes Harris. After the draft and free agency there could be a spot, but it'll likely be a spot down on the bench where you would like to see someone with more upside. From what I've seen that kid the Rockets got from Israel does the same thing as Harris but with more height, youth and athleticism, I'd rather see him in warm ups all game then Harris.
At this point, I see him replacing Hayes, not because he is better then hayes. I think defensively Hayes is better in rebounds and stuff, but harris is a bit better on offense. Both hustle players Hayes minutes are going to be taken by landry and scola. I just don't see that we keep hayes and his salary and let him riot on the bench. Hayes got some values out there, and I see him being package for moving up picks or trade.
I see him as a bench player who will get spot minutes in blow-outs. I like him, but I don't see him as much more than an end of the bench kind of guy.
i doubt hayes has much value at all. most people will see his size and his inability to score and rule out right away that he can play in the nba. that's just how it is. but, it's all good. hayes shouldn't be traded anyways. his defense and his hustle are very valuable to our team. having him as your 3rd man at the 4 playing defense against certain matchups is a perfect role for him. without him our rotation at the 4 is significantly weaker. i had really high hopes for mike harris after last years training camp. but when he signed during the season and i saw him play a little i realised that he's just too small to succeed at the 4. the main difference to hayes is that harris can't defend as well as him. so that leaves us with a player that can't defend well, is severely undersized and can't put the ball on the floor or shoot. that's just too much. i doubt he can be an effective sf either since he doesn't have the skills nor the foot speed. mike probably can be a productive player overseas where the competition in terms of athleticism and size is a lot weaker.
Harris can shoot, he has range up to about 20 feet.....he is not a great 3pt shooter yet, but he has a nice mid range game. Any player that can shoot 50% from the field is welcome on my Rockets team He struggled early as he was finding his way, but I am convinced that he has a place in the NBA and perhaps in a 9 man rotation. I do think he goes ahead of Hayes in the rotation, and may get some time spelling Battier/Tmac depending on the matchup. His lateral quickness is not the best, but it is at least on Battier's level, so there is hope... Mike Harris is a nice role player to have.....and I think he will make the team. DD
For my edification, please 'rank' the following based on your opinion of their value to the Rox (assuming all had 'workable/livable' contracts): Harris Landry Pietrus Gomes Garibosa (sp?) Personally, I'd go: from bottom to top on that list. Thanks.
I think we overpaid for Chuck and his trade value is very low unless JVG gets a job. I don't care about Harris either way. I don't think he will ever amount to more than a 10-15 guy. If he gets any significant playing time it will because of injury. He is short, doesn't play as good of defense as any of our power forwards, and doesn't shoot well from outside or score off the dribble. He is a hustle guy with some offensive skills, but not enough to really make a difference in the nba.
I would agree with that assesment, but are you assuming he can't get better? He can't get taller, but he can certainly get better as a SF... DD
Mike can not leap as quick as Landry, so hw will get blocked again and again. He will remain a 3rd string player in most NBA teams anyways, no that he would matter too much.
well, he shot 25/36 under the basket but only 2/18 from any other spot combined. and it's not only his percentage, his shot also looks pretty ugly. no way. chuck hayes is a very good post and team defender. he's an ideal role player. what's mike's role? he can't shoot, he can't defend. it's sad, but if there's one team where hustle alone won't earn you a roster spot it's the rockets. we already have 3 pfs that hustle on every single possession. you've got to bring more to the table. i might be wrong since he hasn't played that much, but from what i've seen his lateral quickness isn't even on battier's level. mike seems to be one of those players that can jump out of the building but aren't really that quick. i can only repeat it, i had really high hopes for mike and i still like him a lot. i just can't see him contribute in the current situation. but like others said, there's still a chance that we might open up a roster spot via trade...
