Whoever said Harris was Hayes with a jumpshot... please. Hayes has been proven to be a great defender, great rebounder, and a very smart player. Now he has also proven to be a very good passer. Adelman repeatedly mentions him in the same breath with Scola. Harris has had a good camp and played a nice preseason game. That's it. Can he defend the interior as well as Hayes? Can he rebound as consistently as Hayes? Can he make smart plays like Hayes? We'll see. I have a feeling that Adelman does like him and will give him every chance to show his worth. I like him too.
I'm lost. Why can't Harris play SG again? Is he too slow? Not a good enough handle. Whatever the reason, if he can overcome enough of it to be a legit swingman he could be a "power guard" sort of like bonzi. I say we cut: Reed Sura JLIII and, hate to do this, but Novak. We've invested too much in Butler and Landry to cut them. Harris has been better than Novak. Also, I say cut because I doubt we'll have the chance to move any of these players. Any team that wants them will just wait until october 27th to sign them.
Chuck was undrafted not because he lacked skills, but because he was WAY undersized as a PF. There's always a reason.
first off, he had a calf problem his senior year. He would cramp up by the end of the game. They had to monitor his minutes. also, at Rice he played mainly with his back to the basket. I saw him play a lot. He was unstoppable on offense....extremely strong and quick ... he scored at will against Okafur and Villenuava for instance. But, scouts don't know how to rate a 6'5 guy who played that way. imo, he is the best Rice player since Ricky...and that includes Almond. Almond is the harder game to predict at the NBA level, for me at least. He is sneaky at getting his shot off..that is, hard to gauge how that plays out. Harris was much more common. He just simply had great footwork and low post moves. But he was the dreaded tweener...obviously, otherwise Rice would not have landed him. But to answer your question...he graduated a few years ago. He has IMPROVED since then. So your question is old. This is not the Harris who graduated from Rice.
He was in the same draft as Chuck.. both were undersized for their "position" Harris may have got stronger in D League play I think, but his shot was always good from the bits I have seen
Harris definitely played the 4 at Rice. And yeah, he could score, but not what I'd think as a shooter, if that makes since. He wanted to do low post moves and/or shoot turnarounds. It never struck me that he had an outside game...or a face the basket game. Not like Ricky or Almond. What I see, since Rice, is he seems to have gotten more versatile. That strikes me as what he has worked on. btw: Harris also played in Europe...for whatever that is worth.
My ranking of players that have bigger possibilities NOT making the roster: 1. Sura 2. JL3 3. Reed 4. Novak . . . . 5. Landry/Harris/Snyder 8. Butler I hope Harris can make the team though I don't know who will be the one got cut. Really hope Morey can find a way to trade some players only for future picks and/or cash.
Eight ball in the corner pocket. Game over. Totally agree, although Jeff would say we're crazy, because it's one preseason game (and he has an excellent point). I love intelligent players, which is one reason I like Hayes and really like Scola. Add athleticism, and you've upgraded the team. We need to make room and move Snyder, Novak, and Reed, if we can. Intelligent players who can play multiple positions, can shoot, who know when to shoot, and have the quickness and hops to go with it. Harris fits.
It looks like he can shoot a little from the outside based on the preseason game. I don't know about three point range though. I would sure love to see him post up though. I think if he survives in any offense, it would be a rick adelman offense.
I think this team is going to rediscover the midrange jumper. God, I hope so. If Harris can hit enough of those to keep defenses honest, something Hayes has problems with, to put it mildly, you need to find a spot for him.
it's too late for that. he is now a signed, NBA player. He is no longer an unsigned, drafted player who we have draft rights on. He is now a regular signed player, just like Yao. If you cut him now, he's a free agent. my guess is that we signed him because he refused to go overseas for us, so now we are going to cut his ass. good luck Landry. you fool.
