What string of pitching related injuries? I know he has had problems with his shoulder this season, but last season he was injured while sliding into a base. What else has he had?

$15 million/year for a guy who MIGHT be your third starter is NOT a good gamble in my opinion. Not on a team with a payroll lower than $70 million.

Can someone get the stats for hampton when he pitched 2 or more road games in a row as compared to just 1? Would be really interested in seeing comparison.

Well, now we now "Howard in Memorial's" nick ;)

Howard was just on the post-game show with Hunsicker, and said exactly the same thing in exactly the same words...

What's the point of acquiring Juan Pierre since once he's developed, the Astros will have no money to re-sign him? Hidalgo's contract has 2 more years left, Hampton has 5, this is not a fair trade, especially at 15 mil a year...

The speculation I have read in Richard Justice's Chronicle collumn is that Mclane wants Hampton back to get back a little publicity and fan mojo for the Astros in the face of the Texans and Ming era with the Rockets. This sounds very much like a Mclane baseball personnel decision. Hey Drayton: how about a major league third baseman? How about a third or fourth starter who doesn't have 84 million left on his contract? How about a lead off hitter under 56 years old? If stupid ass sentimentality, or some wrong-headed appeal to box office is going to govern the Astros off-season why not bring back JR Richards and Dicky Thon? Hell, I'd take Ken Caminitti Crack Pipe Night over bringing back Hampton. We could get a whole different kind of buzz surrounding the ole' team.... ;)
