If anything this is the guy that knows the pulse of the league and plays to it. When he got to Phoenix that team was not getting it done, so of course you bring in the most dominant big man in the league. But he couldn't COACH that team too... This team he has the two best shooters in the league by far and a compliment of role players that he can base a good defense around in a time where the big man is almost obsolete. So yeah, he posted that pic of that guy but also a guy who goes with the flow and tries to improve on it. He is just in a better position to implement it in his current role.
i'm going off the article but I like when he said this: "There are no secrets on how to defend somebody," D'Antoni said. "It's a lot of heart and soul." You have to want to play defense to do it well. Maybe if we fix the chemistry like he talked about, maybe they will want to play with each other. Big maybe.
LMFBO I'm crying. If you can't stop teams when your offense goes stagnant well then I don't know what to tell you. The Spurs, Miami, GS, Lakers ect could all score the ball with their stars and great systems, but they all had the ability to play great defense when they had to close teams out to win. This teams problem last season was on the defensive side of the ball period.
Still mega-lulzy. Using a pic of the EXACT same guy who ran D'Antoni away. Kerr's teams net good defense, D'Antoni's never have, probably never will.
anyone have a link where i can watch the press conference. Went to rockets.com but no video was uploaded
defensive schemes are easy, getting players to defend hard and close out like their life depends on it....that's the hard part.
Gentry: "Tell Mike D'Antoni he's vindicated! We just kicked everyone's ass playing the way everybody complained about!" Kerr said. "And with the game changing, Mike D'Antoni kind of initiating that style in Phoenix, the floor starting to spread, the whole league kind of playing shooting 4s and 5s and playing a little faster, I think Mike and Steve in many ways set the table for Steph Curry. And I think Steph would tell you that, too." Kerr told ESPN that the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs, with their spacing and shooting, had already vindicated D'Antoni. For some, that is certainly true, but the Warriors winning means much more.
On the positive side MDAs offensive style will almost certainly attract some top tier free agents and get them more nationally televised games because of the extra scoring.
Omg you freaking drama queens. I read the reactions before watching the press conference and I was horrified at what I was about to see. It was the most average press conference ever, everything was just normal, some potential positives and some potential negatives but nothing stood out. You guys really need to get a grip. It's SOOO ridiculous on this board right now.
Somebody's not happy about the hire. (Warning: When you personally describe your YouTube screaming session as an "epic rant" you're asking to be b****-slapped.)
Exactly. This has a better-than-average chance at succeeding if Morey can make a couple of key moves. And if Dwight decides to opt out, of course. The worst thing would be if he opted in and said he was ready to change his game. We've seen that particular movie a couple of times already.
OF COURSE YOU HAVE TO DEFEND TEAMS WHEN YOU CAN'T SCORE, YOU ALSO HAVE TO SCORE WHEN THE OTHER TEAM GETS HOT! You have to play both sides of the court to the best of your abilities to achieve the best point differential. Last seasons team is gone. We have maximum flexibility to shuffle around what's left of it and the entire staff is gone. It's irrelevant now, and the defense basically can't get worse. It is very possible that we would hire a defensive guy and have great defense but ****ty offense and end up with the same record, you get it? Getting a defensive guy would not guarantee we stay strong offensively, that's a childish way to look at things.
Its also possible that we hired a great offensive guy and will have a ***ty defense you get it? Mothloom you come in here acting like you know more than most FYI.
Yes exactly, you are beginning to understand now. It is possible both ways, so if you understand that then why would you be in here talking about how we need a defensive coach now just because LAST SEASON we had defensive struggles? Also, are you whining about the fact that I had to explain to you that you have to score and defend, both being equally important? FYI that's not me acting like I know more than most, that's just me stating a basic fact which somehow escaped your argument.
